Quick Updates

Weather Conditions

Season: Autumn

With the cooling season of Autumn, Ice-types are starting to re-emerge from their hibernation as Ghost-, Normal-, and Flying-types swarm in the largest numbers they will all year. In comparison, wild Fire- and Bug-type populations are falling in number. The migration of Flying-types to the south in search of warmer weather has also started, as Istin City starts to re-freeze and Autumn marks the beginning of Cypwater Point's rainy season. Handlers and Rogues alike should be wary: Ghost-type powers are boosted during this season, at the cost of being more prone to their triggers.

[ Welcome to Harper! I started your Travels here because Luke seems to be in the Edgewood at the end of the RP sample, considering the mention of the raft. Remember to keep an egg count and post in update requests after you post in your travels thread! If you would like to know the primary type of your egg, please PM an admin (or me). If you have any questions, any of the mods would be happy to assist you! Have fun! ]

RP Sample/Prologue

Luke's walk to the raft would be rather uneventful, with only his thoughts and the new poke ball to accompany him on his new journey. The absence of the old man's impositions meant that Luke was now freer than he had been in some time, but he now needed to figure out exactly what to do with that freedom. Still bearing the injuries from his former master's temper a mere matter of days before, he would find his way back to the raft slowly, although he would soon realize that he would need to react quickly in order to keep the raft at all.

He would not need his honed skill of pokemon finding to realize that he was not alone by the raft. A small mammalian pokemon had found its way onto the planks, experimentally gnawing at the wood with its already-long teeth. The species would be familiar enough, but it was quite odd to see a bidoof, especially a young one, alone. It looked skittish, jumping at a small rustling of leaves and whirling around to face it quickly.

If Luke looked over towards the nearby plant that had rustled, he would get a brief glimpse of something pink and white. The colors could describe many pokemon, but the white egg in the pink pouch could only mean one thing: a chansey, a rare pokemon indeed. What was a chansey doing out here?

It could have a handler, hiding away somewhere, or it could be wild - which could mean a very good price for Luke if he managed to use his poaching skills to bring it in. But chansey was not like other pokemon Luke may have poached - the species was known to be pacifistic, although capable of taking a great many wounds before being weakened enough to snare or catch - plus, this would be his first time trying something like that alone. Was this a lead worth following, even with a brand-new pokemon and an unhatched egg?

Then again, his own escape was a necessary thing, especially since he had taken the old man's pokemon from his corpse. If the Guardians managed to put two and two together, that could spell disaster for Luke right off the bat. The raft was still strong, but as the bidoof returned to its gnawing, the small splinters of wood flying away from its teeth revealed that Luke didn't have much time before the raft would have a hole, which would essentially render it useless and necessitate finding a different way to flee the scene.

Was it worth it to try to snare the chansey, or did Luke believe it necessary to get the bidoof off his raft and escape the scene as quickly as possible before the destruction of the wood? The decision would determine how he began his new life as an independent young man.

Luke’s head was still ringing, his back and body were aching. He hated the old man all the same with every throbbing pulse that was sent through his body. Still, he made his way along the same path that he and the old man had forged to their temporary campsite. He thought about what had happened to him in his whole life, and he couldn’t help but laugh to himself. There was so much going through his mind and he now realized that he had free reign over his own life.

Of course, his time of it however, would not be very easy. He pushed through the foliage only just because he could hear the sound of something strange. There was no way for him to know what the sound was, but he did know that the sound was somehow familiar to him. Looking through the foliage he saw at once that it was a bidoof chewing on the raft that both he and his master were using before they had chased off after this past prey. This was not the first time that the raft was threatened, but the last time it had taken a good long time to fix it. They had come while Luke and his master was gone and they had come back when it was all over.

Looking around he had noticed the youth of the little normal type and shook his head. It wouldn’t be alone, it would be either with a parent, or a person. His first thought was guardians; it would be his terrible bad luck if that was the case. Knowing full well that people went missing in the Edgewood all the time, and once someone was lost it was nearly impossible to find them again. In fact, it had been the first rule that Tom had taught him “Never leave my side or sight unless you are making an obvious trail.” He had kept to this rule the whole time, and no matter where he went he knew how to get back to where he had started from.

His mind however, was snapped back to the present by him looking and seeing a white and pink shape in the foliage. It was only a bit, but he instantly knew that this pokemon was a Chansey. This hadn’t been the first one he’d seen, and truthfully he had seen them sell very well. Yet, it had taken a long time to catch the thing, and Luke knew that he didn’t have the pokemon, didn’t have the plans, didn’t have the time to catch this thing. He wanted it so much, more than anything, but he had his priorities. Deciding that he wouldn’t take out his new Pokemon; which he had started to call “Ashi” unless the need was dire and unless he needed to fight the Bidoof. She was tough, and that was well and good.

What he did do at this point was jump out from his cover and gave the best roar he could. He moved to chase away the Bidoof with the hope that the surprise and the fact that it was skittish in its mannerisms would cause it to run away. There was no telling if the Chansey would attack him, but he had no choice. He needed the raft, he knew the paths through the edgewood as if they were forged by him; some of them had been. Still, he did not want to go through the process of getting back to Fough Place which was his first destination in mind on foot. All of this went through his head as he surged out of his cover and tried his best to scare away the Bidoof from his raft one hand going to his pokeball, the other going behind his back to grip one of his daggers.

{ .6 exp! }
As Luke crossed the threshold and yelled towards the Bidoof, the skittish Pokemon jumped. Like, visibly jumped. The mammal’s eyes danced towards the loud screaming, scurried a little further onto the raft and hid behind a rather solid looking pole, and started to chew on some of the ropes that kept the boards together. Maybe the idea of startling the little Pokemon wasn’t such a good idea. Well, Luke would live and let learn, right? Maybe there was something he could do…

The Chancey, meanwhile, made a rather annoyed sigh from the brush, but didn’t come out of it. She stayed where she was, and the long tendrils of fur on her head bounced as she moved. She was stepping away and the quiet singsong of, “Chaaancey~” resonated through the clearing. If anything, Luke might be more worried about what was going on. Even more rustling could be heard, and the audible words could be heard:

“Where’s that Bidoof? The stupid thing ran off again.”

Perhaps the person coming was a fellow poacher, but the chances of that were pretty slim. It was more likely a fellow rogue, or even a guardian who happened to be on patrol, and just so happened to lose their Bidoof. The Chancey, despite what Luke would want, was clearly an owned Pokemon. But as the footsteps traveled closer, Luke had a choice to make: run, or stand his ground.

The options would present in two different ways: Luke could, of course, climb onto his raft and try to get the Bidoof off, hopefully with enough time to push off into the lazy water and just barely miss the person who would step out of the underbrush. The Bidoof, though, would chop its beaver-like front teeth at Luke, and it wouldn’t be easy to get the skittish Pokemon off. In fact, it’d be extremely comedic, because every time Luke would be close enough, the Pokemon would scurry to the other side of the raft. Of course, Luke could always just take the Bidoof and toss it at a later time, once he’s, uh – has some distance between himself and the mysterious stranger.

The other option would be that Luke could stand his ground, and let the stranger approach. If he decided that, the stranger would come out in well made tauros-hide boots, and leather and chain mail; not a guardian, but not a rogue either. He wasn’t all that tall, maybe a few inches taller than Luke himself, with shoulder length brown hair. He looked exhausted and unsure, and a little lost – perhaps, if Luke hung around, this could be a good time to exploit some of those new rogue skills that he had.

Either way, Luke would only have a few moments to make up his mind. He had to decide quick, and get to it.

Luke’s eyes went wide as he saw that the creature moved further onto his raft and near the pole that was used to push the raft along the shallow bank of the logger sea. Seeing that he was instead chewing the ropes made his heart beat faster. He could not afford for this raft to be damaged beyond his ability to repair it which was in all honesty lacking, to say the least. He surged forward onto his raft and swore “Get off my raft you little rodent!” he only just barely heard the sound of the chancey moving off to sing its song to someone else. This someone who responded.

With a groan of annoyance Luke moved closer to the Bidoof, but it snapped its teeth at him. This made him frown and he shook his head slowly reaching back to pull out the Pokeball of his own pokemon. Dropping it to the wooden raft below his feet it opened and out came Ashi. She saw the Bidoof and Luke spoke “He’s eating our raft, stop him.”

The Bite Pokemon looked to the rodent like pokemon, and snarled deep in her throat her mouth full of fangs on full display. She would lunge at the smaller pokemon looking to scare him either off the raft, or at least into the water. Whatever happened first so long as he stopped chewing up the raft and the pieces that held it together. Luke on the other hand would move to a spot where he could keep the Bidoof in front of him but still watch the foliage. He didn’t know who this person was, and was not sure he wanted to be seen, or that he wanted to interact with this person, but he didn’t have a choice. He wasn’t sure he could get away on the raft.

As he saw the man emerging he would hiss at Ashi “Heel.” Ashi having been trained by him and his former master she would stop what she was doing and move to his side never taking her eyes off of the intruder however.

When the man emerged completely from cover Luke would look at him and point to wherever the Bidoof was “It seems that your little Bidoof has a taste for my raft. Take him away before he destroys it anymore, if you would be so kind.” He would say in a tone that was not unfriendly, but rather lacking most emotions one would be able to recognize “You should also be careful, people and Pokemon alike can get lost in these woods. He doesn’t seem old enough to really take care of himself.” Having finished speaking he would fold his arms behind his back gripping the two dagger hilts that were in his belt ready to react if the man proved to be a threat instead of the traveler he seemed to be. Ashi would only glance at the human and keep her eyes on the Bidoof.

{+0.5 EXP!}

Luke's shouting did little good; the bidoof continued to chomp at the ropes, now starting to fray. Its skittishness was overcome with stubbornness and being shouted at only made it want to wreck the human construction faster. The flash of light narrowed its pupils and it flicked its attention toward Ashi, teeth still hooked in the rope. It was clear this pokemon had been in a fight before. Its fur stuck up all over and it raised itself onto its hind legs. A chittering snarl escaped its blunt toothed mouth and it worked itself up into a fury.

The bidoof snarled right back at the poochyena, ready to fight in an instant. It was in the midst of attacking when Ashi took off back to her handler. The bidoof got back on four paws and lashed its tail, glowering. It hadn't heard the chansey's call or it might have behaved a little better. Or perhaps not, no way to be sure. The scraggly man who trudged onto the shore spotted Lucas, slid his gaze to his bidoof, and sighed. He began to curse under his breath as he took a few more slow steps toward the raft. The chansey popped out of the brush and trotted at his side, more energetic by half than their owner. "Caboose! Get your tiny arse back over here and stop chewing this nice boy's raft."

At the sound of its master's voice, the bidoof leaped off the raft and trotted to the stranger, head held high. It even went so far as to hiss in Ashi's direction, as if it weren't the one at fault in this situation. The lumbering man turned to Lucas, head cocked. Tangled hair hung at his temples down to his shoulders, obscuring part of his cheeks and chin. Despite the clear look of exhaustion and the wear of his clothes, he made an imposing figure well over six feet. How anyone that big could get himself lost anywhere was beyond contemplation. The stranger stared at Lucas a few seconds, then glanced down at his bidoof.

"This one was supposed to be sniffing for a trail to get out of here. Must've gotten hungry." He crouched down and picked up the bidoof, digging through his pack to offer the pokemon a morsel. It devoured the offered berries with haste and scrambled around to be set back down. The stranger held the bidoof taut in one arm, then held his free hand out to Lucas. "Samson. I did, in fact, get myself lost in this blasted forest. All we wanted were--" He shrugged. "Doesn't matter now. What we'd like is to get out of this forest. Been nigh on a week, if I counted correctly."

He scratched the back of the bidoof's neck and surveyed the young man. "It seems you know your way around here, at least enough to bring a raft. Looks to me it might fit two." He didn't step forward or invade Lucas' space in any way. Instead he leaned back on his heels. "How's about I make you a deal? Help me out of this accursed forest and there'll be a nice reward in it for you. 'sides, an extra pair of hands to row and a few more pokemon to keep your raft safe might be of use." The man's wide mouth split into a grin. "I promise Caboose here won't eat your raft anymore. He's sorry for the trouble he caused, aren't you 'boose?" The man rocked the bidoof, who made a soft oof of a sound in the back of its throat.

Lucas could take the man's request and make some easy coin if he so chose. With another hand he wouldn't worry so much about being attacked, plus he might rest a while and let the other row. Or he could tell the man off and leave him to his fate. Surely, he might offer direction to get out of Edgewood but judging from the man's mildly dirty and travel worn appearance, he didn't look like he'd take directions very well. No doubt he didn't know which way was up at the moment. Tired and carrying heavy bags beneath his eyes, he looked close to dropping right there. Lucas could do whatever he liked.

Luke’s eyes went hard as he saw the little snapper chewing through his ropes. This was something that he couldn’t allow, but he didn’t have a choice.

When the Bidoof snarled back at Ashi her mouth began to glow with the power of the Thunder Fang that was her birth gift. Yet, the call back from attack brought her right next to Luke’s side and while standing there she stood ready for an attack her mouth still glowing yellow with the electric type attack she was prepared to use on him.

Luke didn’t move, and kept his hands behind his back gripping his dagger hilts as they hung in his belt. Seeing how big this man was, and that he was well travel worn he had clearly been in the Edgewood for a while, and the youth was sure that he didn’t look much better. As the Bidoof got off his raft he also got off standing next to it Ashi however remained on the raft her mouth no longer glowing, but she was clearly ready for a fight should one be offered. Watching the other man as he scooped up his Bidoof Luke was curious as to what would bring such a man out here. Still, he decided that saying nothing right now would be the best policy.

The comment about what he was looking at not mattering now made him raise a brow in silent inquiry. He nodded his head slowly “My name is Luke, but I’m sorry to say that unless you have some extra rope We won’t be going anywhere.” He said climbing back onto the raft ignoring the hand that had offered him. With only a slight nudge of his foot the rope that the Bidoof was chewing came apart “We” he realized the slip but continued carefully “had run out of rope already. So, we were heading back to Fough Place in order to stock up on more supplies. If you have some rope and want to give it to the cause then with a promise of payment I’d be happy to give you a ride to Fough Place.”

Walking off of the raft he stood next to it his hands still behind his back gripping his daggers “The raft could fit you, me, and your Chansey easily. So, that’s where the situation stands right now.” A thought passed his mind and he bowed his head “Sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Luke, and this is Ashi.” He said gesturing to his partner who was staring at both Samson and Caboose. “That’s the whole of the situation as I see it. Otherwise we will have to get there on shanks ponyta."

{ .5 exp; don’t forget to add +3 egg counts for your dev level up! }

Samson eyed Luke with caution as the boy didn’t seem to move. Despite how Luke tried to hide it, Samson knew quite well what the other had behind his back, but made no attempt to point it out. Samson definitely knew when to choose his battles, and the little boy didn’t seem like he’d do much harm. Well, not yet, at least. The man’s dirty hand pet over his Bidoof’s fur as the little Pokemon attempted to squirm away. It was definitely not something the Bidoof was used to.

“You best get your little pooch under control, less you want it to be drowned,” Samson warned casually as he watched the was the Poochyena continued to snarl at Caboose. Samson was, surprisingly, rather cool headed, despite the fact that this boy was basically openly threatening him. Samson watched as Luke introduced himself, and then talk about how they – whoever he was traveling with – had run out of rope. Samson gave a broad shouldered shrug. He barely had food, let alone ropes to help this boy. They’d have to find another way.

“I’ve barely been eating, mate – I don’t know what you expect me to help with,” the man pointed out. While he really did want to be snooty, he passed it along as he studied the raft. He knocked Caboose on the head – not hard, but definitely enough to make the little Bidoof stop squirming underneath his tight grip – and he rose an eyebrow down at the little Pokemon, “Caboose, why’d you go and ruin other people’s things? You annoying little goof,” Samson scolded. Before the Bidoof could react, though, the handler gave a deep, restless sigh before he shook his head. How would they proceed now?

His eyes looked over at the raft again, and the bubbling water beneath. The Logger Sea – and especially the rivers of Edgewood, sometimes tended to get a little rough. It was probably a good thing they couldn’t hop on the raft and go. The water looked higher than usual, and a bit too fast for Samson’s liking. It was definitely a clear sign to him that the waters were far too dangerous to go along with. “I guess we’ll have to find another way around the situation,” Samson finally replied to Luke’s statement about the issues at hand. Samson turned his attention to the world around them, picking up on subtle little clues, but didn’t make them obvious.

“Guess we’ll have to walk, or we’ll have to find something that can be used as a rope substitute,” the man proclaimed.

For Luke, the choices were pretty obvious: he could either ditch the man and try to go through the waters regardless of the roughness, or he could hang around and see what could happen. The man, should Luke decide to stay and agree about finding a rope substitute, would wander a little aways towards where Luke had come from, and would find trees and vines interesting, make the occasional, ‘I wonder if this is poisonous’ comment, and then proceed along the way. His Chancey would stay where she was, glued near the bushes, but the Bidoof would wiggle in Samson’s arms.

It didn’t seem like Samson was going to let the little destructive guy go anytime soon. That was probably a good thing, too.

Eventually, if Luke didn’t stop him, Samson would travel only a few feet into the woods – still within earshot – and then proclaim an excited aha. If it spurred Luke’s curiosity enough to come and see, he’d find Samson crouched on the ground, over a large, menacing looking hole that, oddly enough, was not there when Luke was on his way back to his raft the first time.

Of course, should Luke decide to ditch Samson and push the raft out regardless, he’d realize that the water was far too rapid to steer, and Ashi would yip in terror as the water rocked the wooden logs this way and that. The foam would splash on fur and skin, and the top of the raft would quickly become slippery.

As Luke watched Samson he seemed to take his measure, and he didn’t know what to think of the man at first. However, his mind was made up for him when he heard the threat to Ashi. With a click of his tongue, Ashi seemed to relax, but Luke didn’t. His face was blank and neutral as best he could and he only shrugged his shoulders “I’m not worried about that.” He said rather dismissively. That threat had sealed this man’s fate. As soon as it would be beneficial to do so Luke was going to kill this man. No one threatened his Pokemon and would live to brag about it. Still, revenge was best served cold and he had infinite patience.

The man didn’t have rope and that was sad, but it wasn’t exactly all that hard to be believed. Luke gave another shrug and let his hands come from behind his back showing that they were empty, and held nothing to worry over. He sighed looking to the forest with a bit of an annoyed look in his eyes “Vines and other replacements aplenty in the forest, but it’ll take some time to fix once we gather the stuff.” He said rather to himself than to Samson. Ashi however, kept a watch over them, but she was silent enough only making sure that nothing funny was done while her master wasn’t watching.

As Samson moved over to the forest Luke found his chance, but he already made his choice. He would keep the man around, and stick with him. Only so he could cut the man’s throat when the earliest opportunity arrived. Luke’s eyes landed on the Chansey to keep track of it. The pink Pokemon seemed to be happy to stay by the bushes. The other Pokemon Caboose was being held by Samson who wasn’t letting it go. This was at least some consolation to Luke meaning that he wouldn’t have to fix even more of the raft once he buried this man. That thought brought the thought of a bidoof pelt to Luke’s mind and he knew it would be the best. However, the Chansey would be a good catch to take back and sell somewhere else. All in all, if he could accomplish his hidden objective then it would be a windfall for him.

Luke was brought from his thoughts of murder by the sound of “aha”. Moving over to the raft he snagged his pack and slung it over his shoulders moving to find the voice. As he found it he saw that Samson was crouched over a large hole. “That wasn’t there earlier.” He said in a voice that showed he was thinking about the ramifications of a hole that just suddenly appears. He knew of several Pokemon in the Edgewood that could cause such a hole, and none of those options gave him any kind of peace. As he got nearer he was careful to keep both him and Ashi out of arm’s reach of Samson staying well out of his ability to lunge to grab them and they moved around to the opposite side of the hole to peek into it.

As he got there he looked over to Samson with a raised brow “Any thoughts on what made this hole?” he asked keeping one eye on the man the other on the hole. Ashi standing just behind him and to the left so she could lunge if the need arises, without knocking over her trainer. Luke didn’t trust this man, and wanting to kill him didn’t help him be at ease. Yet, this hole was the more pressing matter at hand so he had to be focused “If this hole was made by a Pokemon; which seems the most likely. Then we need to ask if this Pokemon is still around and can pose a threat to us.”

{ 0.5 EXP! And just one thing on the egg counts from the Grand Festival 2017 popper - you only have four, so they must be split (two for each) or all four used on one egg. Everything else looks good, though! http://files.jcink.net/uploads/harperregion/sprites/emoticons/1.png }

.

Samson glanced up when Lucas came over, and snorted at the suggestion. "How do you think I survived a week in the Edgewood?" he asked, and then stood, rolling his shoulders as he went. "Any digger could've done it, though by the speed I'd have to say a ground-type. And we have pokemon of our own, mate." He grinned at the last in a conspiratorial way, an unspoken Can't a man supposedly familiar with the Edgewood like you fight your way out?

Then his face blanked, and Samson backed away two paces, keeping a steady eye on the hole in the ground. Lucas would have to concentrate to hear and feel it, above the noise of the forest proper and the river behind them; there was a small shifting beneath his feet, subtle and slow.

Ashi would have felt it more keenly, but still be caught off-guard by the speed at which a drilbur burrowed up from the ground directly behind them, popping its head up for a moment to take in the sight of two humans and their pokemons. Two more holes appeared behind it, steel claws giving way to the sight of a dark-furred head and curious eyes. They seemed in well-enough condition, if dusty and dirty from their dig; the one in front gleamed a little, as if its fur was wet for one reason or another.

Caboose, from his place in Samson's arms, reacted to the sudden appearence of the drilbur with a high-pitched keen that would hurt both Ashi and Lucas's ears, and an instinctive Double Team. Their small area of the woods filled with copies of the bidoof, all with the same wide eyes and panicked gaze, on the ground and on grass, with one perilously close to the lead drilbur.

Samson started cursing, letting his bidoof curl into his arms, at the same time that the drilbur, panicking as well, lashed out at the closest targets: Caboose's Double Team copy, and Ashi and Lucas. The ground-type in front lunged forward for the poochyena, striking with rapid slashes across her face before she could react, while another headed for Caboose's image-copy. A third went for Lucas himself, and in his panicked flailing, hit the rogue with a Mud Sport that splashed wet earth onto his head and face.

"Caboose, you nutter!" Samson sputtered, then backed away again so that he was keeping Lucas - and the drilbur - in front of him.

InLucas heard the snort and glanced at Samson with an uninterested look on his face, he was not amused by this guy and his nonsense. Still, he had some merits to his comment about Ground-types and a list of ground type pokemon that lived here in Edgewood. The first one that came to Lucas’ mind was Diglett, and if this hole was dug by such a pokemon he wasn’t going to be happy. Yet, these thoughts didn’t distract him and he saw the wash of facial emotions that happened to Samson. He didn’t need more of a warning and he backed away from the hole quickly.

Luke missed the subtle shifting beneath his feet, but he didn’t miss the sound of digging under him. Ashi was surprised by the sudden appearance of the little mole pokemon, but she started to get ready for a fight. Luke on the other hand slowly reached down towards his belt moving slowly and smoothly so as not to seem threatening in his motions. He needed to get out his other pokemon, which he had obtained. If he could get this pokemon out he wouldn’t be outnumbered.

That was when everything went terribly wrong. That stupid Bidoof freaked out and lost his mind like a little lunatic. The sound made Luke wince as his hand wrapped around the ball of his other pokemon. He was in the process of drawing it out when the rest of hell came forward. The Drilbur rushed forward attacking a different target per. He wasn’t concerned about the one that attacked Cabooses’ double, but the one that went after Ashi made him react. He started to try and move forward throwing the ball in his hand right before he got a face full of mud and earth.

This made him cry out loudly spitting and wiping at his face. The ball struck the ground and Veteris leapt out looking around at all the excitement. Luke spit a huge glob of dirt from his mouth as he used his sleeves to wipe his face clean “Ashi, Veteris; Dark pulse!” he ordered before he finally could clean his face clear of most of the dirt and mud. He was blinking furiously as there was still grit in his eyes, but he caught a glimpse of the battlefield. Pulling up his water skin he saw that Ashi despite being wounded was snarling fiercely and collected the energy she needed. Veteris didn’t seem as angry in the way he gathered his energy, but he trusted Luke enough to trust his judgement. The two dark pokemon pulled in the power they needed and then shot it out in a pair of twin pulses.

Dipping his head back Luke splashed himself with the water from his skin to clean off the rest of his face. If he was attacked now then it was not going to go well for him. He was counting on Veteris’ appearance to pull attention away from him. It would be helpful if the Drilbur would get nervous or scared off by the skunk’s scent, but if not then Veteris could hopefully present a much more serious target.

Battle:
Ashi- lvl 11
Used Dark Pulse to try and hit all three Drilbur, has chance to make them flinch.

Veteris- lvl 17
Came out onto the battlefield; slightly confused, but obeyed.
Used Dark Pulse to try and hit all three Drilbur; flinch chance.

Lucas, lvl 4 Rogue
-Wiped his face as best he could
-Cleaned it with water from his water skin
-Vulnerable to attack

[0.5 exp! Reminder: check here for the battle rules. Generally, your Pokemon can make 3 attacks per turn - 2 damage-dealing, 1 status! It's not required, but it can move battles forward a little bit quicker.]

Lucas quickly found himself against three different Drilbur, with two Pokemon on his side. He had a maybe-ally in Samson, and an irritating maybe-ally in the form of Samson's Bidoof - who was still freaking out, screeching, and formed even more copies of itself. At least for the moment, it seemed like the two of them were completely useless; Samson slowly backed away from the Drilbur, who seemed to be focusing on both of the Pokemon that Lucas had sent out, trying to quiet and calm his Bidoof. "Shh, Caboose, shhh you silly thing..."

Ashi and Veteris stepped up to the plate, bravely putting themselves in danger; first, Ashi stepped forward, focused, and a blast of dark energy pulsed out from her, passing harmlessly through the humans and seeming to dig deep into each of the Drilbur. None of them seemed majorly phased by the attack, but quickly, Veteris stepped up to the plate and did the exact same thing; two of the three seemed to be heavily wounded from this, breathing heavily, while the third must have been stronger and more resistant.

One of the more wounded Drilbur stepped up to Veteris, and slashed out a handful of times out at the Stunky. It was the same Pokemon that had attacked Ashi before, but that didn't seem to matter in the long run; after the attack, Veteris had cuts along his side just as Ashi bore them on the face. Both Pokemon looked wounded, though the Drilbur looked much worse off than Veteris.

The second Drilbur turned its attention to Ashi, forming a ball of mud and throwing it at Ashi; though she tried to dodge out of the way, it still hit her in the face. It took her a moment to brush as much of it out of her eyes as possible, rubbing her face against her side and pawing at her face briefly, but overall that alone didn't seem to do much damage to her. The cuts on her face were now filled with mud, the fur matted against the wounds. Both Pokemon seemed to still be okay for battle, though clearly wounded and panting a bit.

Before the third Drilbur could really react, it was slammed in the side by a strange pulse of blue-tinted energy; the source wasn't immediately clear, until Samson's Chansey stepped from the bushes and set its small hands against its sides, frowning at the Drilbur. The Drilbur hesitated a few moments, glaring at each of its opponents, before retreating underground, digging quicker than any of the other Pokemon could follow - whether it was preparing to attack or to escape would be impossible to know, at that point in time.

The battle itself didn't seem to be going in one way or the other, but had managed to even out to some extent; instead of three-on-two, it now seemed to be three-on-three.

At least, it did until Lucas became aware of a strangely loud cracking noise coming from just behind him - turning to look would reveal that it had actually been coming from his pack. His egg must be hatching! Terrible timing, obviously...but eggs would hatch when they were ready, not a moment sooner nor later.

Luke groaned as he finally managed to get the dirt off his face. Now he could focus on the battle. He caught sight of the same Drilbur that had hurt Ashi do the same thing to Veteris. However, the Stunky got off easier as the scratches were only to his side. These wounds would still, need to be looked after when the battle was over, but that wasn’t important right now.

Veteris was engaged with his own foe now. Yet, that personality quirk of his took over and the moment the Drilbur’s claws slashed into his body the little Stunky turned his head to look at the mole pokemon spraying a thick Smog cloud at it. With a groan Luke clapped his hand to his face shaking his head as he called out “Veteris Dark Pulse! Follow it up with Hone Claws!” Veteris having successfully sprayed his opponent to teach him respect did just as he was told. The energy collected inside of his body and with a cry he let it go sending it out in a huge pulsing wave much like before. As soon, as the wave was traveling Veteris began to rub his front paws together sharpening them against each other in preparation for the next exchange of attacks.

A yip of pain from Ashi snapped Luke’s gaze to her. She was in a much worse state, and that was clear from the mud in her wounds and the matted fur. Yet, she was still going. Lucas swore he would kill the Drilbur that had cut up her face like that when this was all over. However, he had to help her now and so he shouted “Ashi! Snarl, follow it up with Dark Pulse!” This was the best plan of attack as he knew from previous battles that Snarl affected every foe he was facing. Hoping he was right he watched with baiting breath as Ashi let loose a vicious snarl the sound traveling in dark lines to strike at her opponents. Her snarl only just dying away Ashi was growling as she gathered the power needed. She felt Veteris’ pulse come towards her even as she released her own sending it towards her foes.

The battle was not quite so hopeless and Lucas caught a glimpse of the Chansey that was now in the thick of it, and that let him relax. If she was here then he didn’t need to worry about the third Drilbur. At least that was what he thought. Yet, his mind was distracted from the battle by the sound of cracking and the movement from inside of his pack. His mind went to the worst-case scenario first and he gave a cry of alarm. This brought both of his Pokemon close to him without him even meaning to do so. They had their backs to him watching their foes even as they were now within range to aid their Alpha if needed.

Lucas, however, didn’t notice this as he carefully, but quickly pulled his pack off and knelt his back to the battle opening it up to find that one of his eggs had a little brown claw poking through it. He blinked in surprise without understanding what he was seeing until the little insect-like head punched through the top of the egg. Those bright green eyes looked up at him and Luke couldn’t help but smile tears coming to his eyes “H-Hey there little guy…” he said softly as he pulled up a Pokeball “I’m glad you are hatched. My name is Lucas, and I’m going to take care of you.” He said soothingly ignoring the timing “I gave up a lot for you little one. Now let’s get you somewhere safer.” cooed at the curious little insect in his bag before tapping the ball he held to its head. The ball opened and scooped up the little Pokemon inside of it. As soon as it did Luke let it fall back into his pack while it tried to catch the Pokemon in question. He didn’t want the little Nincada to be harmed if the capture wasn’t successful. Now he turned his attention back to the battle quickly checking to see the state of things.

Battle:
Ashi- Lvl 11
Used Snarl to try and hit the two Drilbur on the surface.
Used Dark Pulse to try and hit the Drilbur.

Veteris- Lvl 17
Used Smog on the Drilbur that cut him with its claws.
Used Dark Pulse to try and hit the Drilbur again.

Lucas- Lvl 4 Rogue
Attempting to catch his newly Hatched Nincada, leaving his back to the fight.
Is ignoring the third Drilbur thinking the Chansey has it under control.
Catch successful or not he turns his attention to the battle once he drops the ball into his bag.

-------
Stufful Egg: 12 count (+2 from Magma armor ring)
Nincada notes- Nickname: Lugus, Gender: Male
OOC: I will be trying to capture the female Drilbur if given the chance, but I will kill the Male lvl 14 if given the chance.

[0.5 exp! -1 pokeball for the capture of Lugas (auto-success as it was a hatched egg), and name/gender processed!]

Both visible Drilbur shared a glance before glaring at both Pokemon fighting against them, preparing for the next round of attacks from both sides. Each took a moment to focus, a brief layer of something metallic seeming to form around their bodies before it melted into their bodies - a moment of thought would reveal both to have strengthened their defenses in some way. Of course, they didn't know what their opponents were planning, or that it would provide a rather ineffective barrier against their attacks - but that didn't really matter, in the long run, as they did what they did.

Veteris was, surprisingly enough, the quickest of the bunch of Pokemon fighting. While the Drilbur he was fighting was taking its time strengthening its defenses, he spat forth a thick cloud of smog, causing the Drilbur to cough and wheeze from the toxins. It obscured his opponent for several long moments before clearing; it didn't seem to have really done a whole lot of damage against the Drilbur, nor did it seem to have lingered in its lungs in the form of a lingering poisonous cause of damage. Drilbur retaliated by raking its claws deeply into Veteris' side, making the scratches it had given him previously even deeper. At least for now, Veteris seemed to be standing strong, while the Drilbur was quite a bit more damaged.

Chansey was eyeing their surroundings, waiting for the third Drilbur to once more show itself; in the meantime, Ashi stepped up and Snarled angrily at the two visible Drilbur. Both Drilbur stumbled for a moment, but neither one was down and out just yet; the Drilbur closest to Ashi retaliated by coating its claws in metal and scratching at her once again, opening fresh wounds on her side. She yelped loudly, stumbling back, panting and exhausted - it had done quite a lot of damage with such a simple attack.

Chansey moved surprisingly nimbly out of the way of an attack just then, as the third Drilbur tunneled up out of the ground - it didn't avoid all of the damage, but had managed to avoid most of it. It did stumble briefly, but recovered and retaliated just as quickly. It pulled in light and power from the air around it, forcing the power - once gathered - into an incredibly powerful beam of light; it picked up the Drilbur the Chansey had been fighting, tossing it across the field and into a tree. When the field was visible once again - when eyes had re-adjusted to the natural light levels of the area - Chansey was still standing, if panting and temporarily unable to move from the power it had just expended, while Drilbur was slumped against the tree, unmoving. Whether unconscious or dead would be impossible to tell, from their point of view.

That left the other two Drilbur on the field still, with the more powerful of the three knocked out; the weaker of the two turned as though to flee, one claw raised in preparation to dig into the ground. Before it could, though, Veteris stepped forward and pushed out a strong pulse of dark power, which visibly dug into both of the remaining Drilbur; both stumbled briefly, while the one that had been about to flee instead stumbled to the ground, unconscious.

Down to one opponent, Ashi growled and stepped forward menacingly; the remaining Drilbur stumbled back and prepared to flee as well, only Ashi reacted a little bit faster than the Drilbur could dig out of sight. Quickly enough, another pulse of dark power dug into the Drilbur, causing the third Drilbur to faint; Ashi stumbled with the effort, collapsing and panting. She was still conscious - but only just. She didn't seem like she'd tumble over the edge into unconsciousness just yet, but definitely wouldn't be able to put up any sort of fight for at least a little while.

With that, though, the battle was won. Samson eyed Lucas and his exhausted Pokemon for several long moments, before nodding over at Chansey - Lucas would likely be wary as said Chansey approached Ashi's panting form, bending down a moment. Its egg would glow golden, and an illusionary second egg would be pulled from it, moving from Chansey into Ashi; it seemed to weaken Chansey a bit, but Ashi seemed to gain back quite a bit of strength. Chansey would then pat the Poochyena on the head, gently, and move back to Samson's side - surprisingly enough, despite everything that had happened between the two, Samson had been willing to sacrifice a little bit of his Pokemon's health to heal one of Lucas' to some extent.

Ashi wasn't miraculously fully healed or anything like that, nor did she stand, but she definitely wasn't breathing quite as hard as she had been, and no blood seemed to be actively leaving her body - the cuts on her face and side seemed to have scabbed over, though not healed. That said, Samson didn't offer anything more to the poacher, nor did he offer any words right away - instead, he went back to examining the hole for a moment, before turning his attention to the Drilbur. He walked over to the one his Chansey had knocked out and checked it out, shaking his head a moment before starting to harvest bits from the corpse - claws and teeth, mostly, as trying to skin the Pokemon would take some time.

"That last attack from Anisadora killed the poor thing - might as well get something good from its body, anyways." Now-named Anisadora was watching Samson's back, prepared in case Lucas or any of his Pokemon attacked. It wouldn't attack first, but it did look ready in case an attack came its way. Caboose, meanwhile, had been set on the ground, and pretty much clung to his trainer's leg; it seemed as though the Bidoof was still very young, and still fairly scared. Its doubles still wandered aimlessly, but were fading quickly enough; soon, besides the new holes in the ground and the dead or unconscious Drilbur, there was little to no evidence of the fight that had happened.

At this point, it was up to Lucas: would he risk his Pokemon in an attack on Samson while he was distracted, would he take a moment to check up on the remaining two Drilbur (both still alive, if unconscious), or would he do something else? Only time would tell...

Lucas watched with horror as his beloved Pokemon were so attacked. Veteris was strong that was plain as he stood strong against the claws that had so injured Ashi earlier. Yet, he also knew that Veteris was stronger than his Ashi. As he watched the battle unfold, Lucas was suddenly blinded by a brilliant light filled the area around them. He slapped his hands over his eyes hissing from the sudden brightness, Veteris and Ashi turned their heads to get away from the painful brightness of the light. By this time the Chansey had used her powerful beam to deal with the strongest of the group of moles.

When this attack ended Lucas realized that this Chansey was powerful and he would have to be very careful when he dealt with Samson. He couldn’t overpower such a Pokemon with just the three he had. His thoughts let him ignore the next attack so he had no idea that one of the Drilbur had been taken down. He did, however, notice when Ashi’s attack went off and struck the remaining Drilbur full force bringing it down. He watched horrified as Ashi fell and he rushed to her without waiting for anything more to be done. He gently placed a hand on her head whispering to her “You did splendidly love. I shall take care of your wounds before I deal with the Drilbur.”

Ashi looked up at her alpha whimpering softly from the pain of her wounds. It was only then that they noticed the Chansey had drawn closer to them. Lucas slowly reached around behind his back, but his hand didn’t go to his belt. Instead, it collided with the furry head of Veteris who was watching warily as the Chansey pulled her egg out. The Stunky wasn’t the greatest of fighters, but he would not allow someone in his pack to be hurt without a price being paid. When the Chansey made a second illusionary egg appear, however, and used it to heal Ashi the two relaxed visibly. As soon as the Chansey had moved off Lucas reached into one of the pouches on his belt and withdrew a pair of potions. The first of these he used to clean and heal the wounds on Ashi’s face and her side even more. He didn’t want her to continue to suffer if he could stop it. His bite Pokemon gave a whimper of pain as the potion touched her newly scabbed over wounds and began to work. All potions had some stinging to deal with.

While he waited for the potion to do its work on Ashi he turned to Veteris with the other one “This will sting.” He warned hoping to avoid the poisonous gas attack that his Stunky was famous for. In answer, Veteris tucked his bushy tail under his body and lay on his uninjured side so Lucas would have full access. Smiling down at his little Stunky Lucas applied the potion to the deep wounds using the entire bottle to make sure that he had done his best. When the potion was empty Lucas tucked the two spent containers into another pouch entirely. He wasn’t his master to just leave empty potion bottles in the forest.

His healing work done to the best of his ability he stood up and looked to Ashi “Pay attention.” He told her. When she looked up at him he started to move towards the fallen Drilbur that Ashi had last been fighting. Pulling out one of his Pokeballs from his sleeve he tapped it to the unconscious little mole Pokemon. Looking back at Ashi he met her eyes to see if she would dare to show challenge. The little Bite Pokemon lowered her eyes quickly and that was all the answer Lucas needed.

As he moved away from the Pokeball to let it do its work he approached the Drilbur that had gone for Ashi’s face and attacked first. Slowly he drew one of his daggers as he got closer. He positioned himself in such a way that Ashi could see full well what he was doing. With one quick downward thrust, he stabbed the blade into the back of the Drilbur’s head and dragged it down towards the base of the Mole Pokemon’s neck. This is what happened to those who Lucas deemed his enemy. Ashi gave a low snarl of approval even as she could not raise herself to her paws in order to eat her dead enemy. Now the Drilbur was dead and Lucas moved to take its claws and teeth. He had heard in Fough Place there were people who could make Excadrill claws into daggers, so he wondered if the same would be possible of Drilbur claws. Seeing as he and Samson were headed there anyway, it wouldn’t be hard for him to take the claws back and see if this were possible. As he pulled out all the Drilbur’s teeth he selected the largest one and tucked it into a separate pouch altogether. He would add this tooth to his trophy necklace. Even though this Drilbur was an enemy he couldn’t help but respect a creature who chose to fight instead of run.

With his butcher’s work done he looked to Samson and Anisadora. He chose to ignore the Bidoof because he would kill it otherwise. In his mind, however, the Bidoof and its trainer were still dead. Presently, he said, “Thank you for helping to heal Ashi.” His face did indeed show his gratitude for the act “We need to find some vines if we are to fix my raft.” He reminded the older man looking from him to his two Pokemon to see how they were fairing after being healed. He would need to recall them so they could rest, but not until he was sure he wouldn’t need them.

Veteris was standing between Ashi and the strangers. Much like Anisadora, he was ready to defend her, but he made no move of aggression on his own.

Stufful Egg: 14 (+2 magma ring)
Notes: Used 1 potion on both Ashi and Veteris. Meaning I have 1 Potion left. Attempted to capture the lvl 15 Drilbur, and Killed the lvl 14 one taking its claws and teeth. (I only assume the kill was successful because it was unconscious. If I erred tell me and I shall change it.)

[0.7 exp~ No problem on the killing of the Drilbur - like you said, it was unconscious already and had no chance to fight in these circumstances; if you ever wonder if it's okay if you do x or y in your travels, don't hesitate to ask. All I'm going to say about this post right now is: any inconsistencies between this post and previous ones are on purpose. Also: sorry for the delay]

However hesitant their alliance was, however much they might watch the other for inevitable signs of betrayal, for now, Lucas and Samson found themselves allies. Samson nodded, reluctantly showing respect, to Lucas' words of thanks, even though he never spoke a word of acceptance or deflection. At the reminder of needing to find vines, he grimaced and appeared to have a wordless discussion with his Chansey.

Lucas would have a few moments to regroup and consider where his team and himself stood, and would find himself...perhaps not recovered, but miles ahead of where he had been, before. Both of the Pokemon involved in the fight still needed rest, especially the newcomer to his team - who likely wouldn't be happy, waking up in his hands, but that was the trouble of catching Pokemon knocked unconscious. But both in his small pack seemed stronger than they had before - not ready for another fight that vicious, but not quite as devastated (especially in Ashi's case) as before.

"Look, I work this place often enough - last time I was around here, to the north there was a bit of a clearing. Infested with vines, eating at the plants and trees - strong things, I've used them for traps many times. Should still have plenty to be harvested, too - I don't hit it every time I'm here, and it's been a while." It seemed a little...convenient, but such things always did in this kind of situation, especially when it had become clear that neither human truly trusted the other. There was likely some bit of truth in the statement even if it wasn't the full truth - the best lies had some amount of truth, after all.

Visually, there was nothing to distinguish north from east or west - Lucas would know that the raft he was set to fix back up was to the east of where they were currently, but overall, didn't know much about the area. Something was ringing simply wrong here, but nothing stood out immediately, and nothing seemed overly dangerous right that very moment. Any direction was likely to hold what they searched for, and danger lurked around every bush; even with Lucas' experience in the field, it would be difficult to figure out which direction to go simply by what was around. At that particular moment, Samson's words - uneasy though they felt - were all that Lucas actually had to go by.

At this point, Samson seemed to be waiting for Lucas' decision: would they head deeper into the forest, towards where Samson directed; would Lucas take his chances against Samson now; hell, would Lucas decide to just turn his back on Samson (carefully) and walk away? It was entirely on his shoulders, now.

Drilbur~
