Quick Updates

Weather Conditions

Season: Autumn

With the cooling season of Autumn, Ice-types are starting to re-emerge from their hibernation as Ghost-, Normal-, and Flying-types swarm in the largest numbers they will all year. In comparison, wild Fire- and Bug-type populations are falling in number. The migration of Flying-types to the south in search of warmer weather has also started, as Istin City starts to re-freeze and Autumn marks the beginning of Cypwater Point's rainy season. Handlers and Rogues alike should be wary: Ghost-type powers are boosted during this season, at the cost of being more prone to their triggers.

Ashi was no slouch and was happy to fight alongside Dorian, but it was mostly because she didn’t know the meaning of fear. She knew when to retreat, but she was never afraid, she was not afraid when Lucas’ master Thomas would beat her, sick his Sneasel on her, she was never afraid. Still, she knew that this was not a good fight, and she also well knew that Lucas was indeed right, this was no place for heroes and there were no real heroes in the world. She didn’t leave Dorian alone however, Lucas and the human he was talking too seemed to be trying to be friends. That meant she would have to keep him from being overwhelmed.

Now, she and Veteris were with their master and Lugus. They were snarling deeply and inflicting damage upon all of the Sandygast that were closing in on them and the boulders. Thankfully, it seemed that most of them were not anywhere near large enough to actually climb up onto the rocks. This was very helpful for all of them Lucas looked around as he tried to figure out where all of these Sandygast were coming from. He couldn’t figure out where they were coming from, or why they were attacking people in this way.

He glanced over at Denzil who was now pulling out his Pokecard. He snatched it up from around his neck and he scanned a Sandygast before it was chased away by Ashi and her powerful Snarl attack. He read the information, but the part that he found was the most useful, was the enthralling of humans who take their shovel and forcing them to help the pokemon’s body.

Reading this information, he wasn’t very concerned with himself. He would find a way to get out of here, even if that meant that he had to sacrifice Denzil and all of his pokemon. He looked up at frowned as he couldn’t really see through the haze heat on the beach. Yet, he was able to see things that were much taller than the ghost sand castles shuffling about. He wished he had a flying pokemon, or some pokemon that was able to do some advanced scouting for him. He looked down at himself knowing he had a digging pokemon, but that she was currently unreliable.

Lucas rolled his eyes to himself and looked up to try and squint to see the shapes better, but he was thankfully not forced to wait too long. As soon as Ruby moved back to Denzil one of these shambling enthralled corpses were coming along and moving somewhere. He didn’t know where, or why, but it was clear they were doing something and going somewhere. The curiosity was where they were going, and what the ghost pokemon were having them do.

When Denzil began to relay the information he gently pointed out the closer one that was opposite the way that Ruby had flown off in. “It is clear that they are doing something.” When Ruby came screaming back to them he looked to see that she was gesturing further out into the lake. He rolled his eyes and pulled out his pokeballs recalling all of his pokemon save for Ashi before he quickly hid where they were resting. Standing up and dusting himself off he looked to Denzil “So, it looks like we have to swim it. They are blocking us from everywhere but the water, we don’t have much of a choice. Shall we go?”

Denzil stood frozen as he looked out over the water, the sweat on his palms having little to do with the heat of the sun. He audibly gulped when he looked out over the expanse of water before them, the peaceful Lake seeming to stretch far out to creation itself. “That…might be a problem.” he said with a weary look over his shoulder.

His eyes cast over their small group, falling to each of his partners in turn. Gemini was slowing under the desert sun and Dorian wasn’t faring much better, Ruby herself had already been recalled once to avoid overheating. The Sneasel gave a brief yelp of protest as she was recalled to her sphere and secured in her Handler’s vest. Denzil was already pushing having her out and about as it was, with her Ice-typing.

He turned to the red dragonfly flitting nearby and weighed his options, shaking his head a moment later. Much as he loved Ruby, she wouldn’t have the wing strength to lift a person until she Evolved into her final Stage. With a faint grimace, thoughts turned to the last Pokeball in his pocket.

Swimming isn’t exactly in my skillset, but there might be a way to get us over the water.Might being the operative word, here. He took a breath, and thumbed the button on the sphere.

An orange stone slowly took shape, yellow spines jutting out along its perimeter in the shape of the noon-day Sun. Red eyes opened at its front and glanced about with a thinly-veiled air of annoyance, especially when it took in the sight of Denzil and the others. “Apollo.” The Solrock floated in silence and simply stared straight forward, eventually tilting upward to gaze at the Sun.

Denzil scratched at the back of his head and gave Lucas an apologetic look, before explaining the situation to the floating rock. “That’s why I need you to lift us over the water.” Apollo floated in silence long enough that Denzil adopted a mild glare, beginning to suspect a distinct lack of cooperation in the near future. A faint waver appeared across the Solrock’s body as it focused its Psychic abilities into the immediate area.

Denzil’s hands slowly rose up at his sides as his boots left the sand at an almost creaking pace, his toes eventually leaving the ground and leaving the young man to hover like some ungainly kite. He gave Lucas a nod and waited for his decision, Ruby carefully nudging her Handler when he started to drift to the side. As an afterthought he recalled Dorian as well, Ruby taking over and pelting the oncoming ghosts with strafing Signal Beams that kicked up sand in their wake.

Denzil’s eyes turned apologetic once more, “I’m too heavy for Apollo to lift us both at once. We can try going one at a time, if you don’t want to swim.” He fought back a light shudder at the thought of entering the water. “Maybe Apollo should take you first, since Ashi can’t fly and you’ll need to hold her for the trip. I can catch up soon after once you land.” He knew that Dark-Types where highly resistant to Psychic influence, but he wasn’t sure if Apollo’s levitation would cop out over the water and did not want to risk the Poochyena falling.

If Lucas chose to go first, Apollo would set him down onto the opposite shore away from the Sandygast before returning for Denzil. As Apollo was still fairly young in its training the going would be slow, and more than once his feet would touch the surface of the water as he was ferried across. By the time it had returned and lifted Denzil from the sand, Ruby had all but exhausted herself from keeping their pursuers back.

Denzil’s heart was pounding in his ears as he was carried out over the expanse of water, every wave and ripple sounding as though it were shouting threats to drag him under. The almost tranquil beauty of the blue-green lake was largely overlooked in favor of the all-too distant coastline. He looked down once and immediately regretted it, hoping that he would get out of this without becoming a permanent fixture of the Lake bottom.

He gave a yelp when a sudden drop in altitude dropped him shin-deep into the water. His glare was cut short when Apollo reasserted its Psychic hold and raised its Handler back up, by the ankles. Denzil crossed his arms and sighed deeply as he was ferried through the air in the manner of a sleeping Zubat. “You did that on purpose.” The Solrock neither confirmed or denied these accusations, but it did drop to hover closer to the water.

Denzil’s reply caught in his throat when he looked ahead and saw what he believed may have had Ruby so worked up. On a sandbar sat another sand Ghost, larger and appearing more akin to a castle than the simple mounds that had mobbed them only minutes ago. The water forgotten for a moment, he saw that this creature was scrambling back onto its tiny islet, which seemed to be slowly dissolving into the Lake as the waves claimed a bit of sand with each pass.

His suspicion was confirmed when Ruby made a show of circling this islet in front of them, hovering near his head and buzzing loudly. “Ok, let’s meet back up with the others and plan this out. That sandbar may be sinking slow but it won’t stay above water forever.” Denzil felt tiny claws at his back when the Yanma moved to push his floating form from behind. By the time they reached where Lucas had been set down the Blacksmith’s face was about as red as the dragonfly, most of the blood rushing down from his feet.

After being unceremoniously dumped onto the sand by Apollo, and the subsequent spitting of sand and glare, Denzil filled Lucas in on what he had seen. “I think the ‘Gasts are dumping sand into the water to reach their friend, and enthralling people to help. They won’t reach it before that sandbar sinks and who knows how far spread they will go in the meantime.” The craftsman part of his mind was piecing together what resources they had to work with, hands drawing a crude design in the sand at their feet depicting the Lake, the sandbar, and where the ‘Gasts were last seen.

Lucas glanced at the water and then back at Denzil with a raised brow as he tried to figure out what kind of problem the boy would have with swimming across a lake. He had learned to swim in the logger sea which was a terrible place to get stranded, but it had given him the skills to swim a lake with no real sense of difficulty, although he wouldn’t be able to swim for long, and it would take him time to recover from the swim that was definite.

He watched in silence lifting his brow in question, but he kept his silence as he watched the other pull out his last Pokeball which was one that Lucas couldn’t recall seeing before. Then again, he glanced down to his own clothes and kept from seeking out the place where Erecura’s Pokeball was hiding. So, he didn’t worry overly much about not seeing this Pokeball before.

When the ball was thrown, and the orange stone took shape he raised his brow smirking slowly as he licked his lips. He had seen a solrock once before and it was an uncommon pokemon to be sure. He wondered just what it would go for, but instead, he gave a shrug. Lucas wasn’t going to steal from Denzil because the other had proved to not only be of use but a potential ally. Hearing the Solrock’s name he smiled wider “Apollo, appropriate name.”

Hearing Denzil explain about the need to lift them up over the water. This was the moment that Lucas figured out just what his other method of getting over to the island without swimming would be. He looked to Ashi and then to the Solrock with a raised brow. This idea was a very interesting one, and he wondered if it would work, he hadn’t much experience with Psychic pokemon of any kind, so this was truly going to be an interesting experience, to say the least.

He smiled giving the other man a shrug as he looked to Ashi and recalling her to her Pokeball He explained crossing his arms as he looked at the Solrock with a warning eye before smiling at Denzil [color=Limegreen]“I would be delighted to go first if you are sure that is what you want.”

When Lucas was lifted up into the air he started to appear a little nervous about the whole thing. He was not happy being in the sky, he was not happy about not having any power over where he was going, how he was going, or in what fashion he was moving. Still, it was also very interesting, and Lucas wondered if he could get a psychic pokemon of his own. How wonderful it would be to use psychic powers to travel around the world without much of an issue. When he landed on the small island he looked around trying to figure out just what was going on.

While Lucas waiting on the shore he glanced back to watch Denzil’s progress over the water with a critical eye. He had experienced it but getting to see it in action from an observer’s standpoint was very interesting. He crossed his arms, so he could watch the process and he had to say it was very interesting really the psychic powers of pokemon were spectacular, and with these kinds of powers, he was sure that his life as a poacher would be much, much easier.

When he saw the drop, he took several involuntary steps forward to try and help his falling comrade. Seeing that Apollo caught Denzil he sighed heavily shaking his head in slight relief. He was a halfway decent swimmer, but he wasn’t sure that he could save Denzil on his own, and he didn’t have any water pokemon to help in the process. Watching the way he was ferried through the air made him chuckle to himself as quietly as he could, but still, he was amused.

Lucas hadn’t seen anything that was going on with the giant sandcastle ghost as his attention was fully on Denzil. He saw that Ruby was pushing on him as if trying to speed up the process of him getting towards the little island. He stepped back to allow Denzil plenty of space to be put down and he looked around now only just taking in the sight of the much larger sandcastle. He tilted his head with a smirk “Ah, how very interesting. This one seems a bit…older that the others out there.”

He smiled, and he licked his lips as he looked at the situation “So…that’s the game. Well, I suppose that it is only natural that they would want to help.” He turned to look at Denzil as he fell to the ground and did his best to hide his amusement. Looking around he glanced back at the spot on the shore they left and nodded his head “They won’t make it sure enough. Still, there is plenty we could do to help if you so desire. I agree that they wouldn’t stop no matter what. However, I also am guessing that if they are too late it’ll send them into a madness that we just can’t afford. It seems that we have to help this sandcastle get back to his friends.”

Sighing he squatted down next to Denzil looking down to try and see just what he was doing. Tilting his head slowly he looked at the diagram and then back at the shore with a raised brow “I am very curious. Could we somehow get the larger sandcastle to the shore the same way we got here? I do understand that such a thing might be draining on Apollo, but he wouldn’t need to take us across again for some time. At least, he wouldn’t have to take me across again. I could swim it. I just don’t think we have any other pokemon that could help….” He looked down at himself shaking his head “Erecura is the only pokemon I have, and she is a digger…unless I could make a waterproof tunnel with her to the shore I don’t think we could get to the shore any other way.” He said sighing heavily once more.

At Lucas’ inquiry, Denzil looked to Apollo with a questioning look. The Solrock hovered impassively though whether deep in thought, or out of sheer boredom, was anyone’s guess. A faint flicker radiated from Apollo similar to when it had lifted the two humans and seemed to concentrate on the sand at their feet. Loose granules whipped about as a single tower began to slowly form from sand, with the soil compacted at the base like that of a stone foundation seen in castles. Denzil’s expression lifted along with the simple structure and fell just as quickly when it sifted back into loose soil, falling back to the ground in a pile. His brow furrowed in confusion for a long moment as Apollo turned to regard the sun in the sky with all interest. Denzil turned to Lucas. “I think what Apollo is trying to say is, that the sand or in this case the sand creature would break down if lifted. I don’t know how Psychic abilities work, but if it means grabbing each grain of sand all at once…” He made a pointed gesture of looking around at the desert dunes.

He scratched at his chin at the mention of a tunnel. The idea held merit, going under the water was an option if they couldn’t go over it. The problem is the same as floating, the sand is too loose to form anything sturdy. Unless.... He thought to Pharus resting in his ‘ball and cast the idea away almost immediately. The bright day would have left the Litwick weakened to begin with, and even using his flame to form the sand into glass would only make a brittle platform. By itself it might work but with the Lake’s depth it would be sinking just like that sandbar the Palossand was currently struggling to stay atop. Ruby had since dropped from her usual height and was beginning to noticeably waver in the heat, so he recalled her to her sphere for the time being.

With the Yanma secured Denzil thought back to the issue at hand, it kept coming back to the lack of a stable base to work off of. Most of his family was either exhausted or would fare poorly in this environment, which left Lucas and his team, and a fickle Solrock. He began to pace as the gears in his skull strained to move and occasionally ground to a halt entirely when he was forced to discard an idea. Lucas’ mention of floating as they had over the water kept standing out, however, and may have provided the solution. “Apollo, I’m going to need you to focus your energy on this one. Meditate and use Calm Mind until you are at your peak, we’re going to need it.” The Solrock gave no indication that it heard, or acknowledged, his words save for a faint humming sound when it turned to gaze fully at the burning Sun. Taking that as a ‘yes’.

Denzil crossed his arms and turned to Lucas, “I think you’re right that Apollo can help with the lifting, but this sand is just too blasted loose to hold together long enough. I have an idea, but it relies on you and your team to make it work. Will you hear me out?” As the Solrock gently hovered nearby Denzil explained his idea: Apollo would use Rock Throw to make a solid ‘craft’ for the trapped sand creature to get on, so that it would be off the sinking sandbar and out of the water. Using the Lake itself, the rock would be levitated on its surface to take some of the weight off of it and strain off Apollo. The problem was that once they reached that point they were stuck, as Apollo was reaching its last legs and would need all of its focus just to keep the rock from sinking. Even then they wouldn’t be able to keep it floating for long, which was why Lucas and his team were pivotal to make it work.

Ashi and Veteris seem to be skilled in using Dark Pulse, could they focus it into a line? Together, I think they’d have the oomph we need to push the rock to the shoreline. If they hit it from different angles it might stabilize it to where we want it to go.” He stopped and scratched the back of his head while he thought, glancing back to the sandbar. “Unless we could time the Pulses to meet at the back of the rock, that might work too. I'm open to suggestions.” He looked to Lucas for his input.

Lucas watched as he saw the sand flow from the single tower and he gave a loud sigh of boredom. It was clear that the solrock couldn’t maintain a sand structure with its own psychic powers. He had a theory that this would happen, and of course, there was no reason to not suspect such a thing. He nodded his head finally as he heard the explanation that Denzil gave He said musing to himself what he could do with a psychic pokemon at his command. He was sure that it would make his job as a Pokemon Poacher a lot easier, and that he would be able to capture far stronger pokemon with significantly less effort. He just didn’t know how he would go about catching one, nor where would he start to hunt for one. There would be something to come towards him he was sure of that, and there was no point in doing anything until it was brought to him.

He thought long and hard about the applications he could use with a psychic pokemon at his back. His thoughts were interrupted by Denzil’s voice and he nodded his head. He saw what the other was doing and he agreed that this would be the best course of action. He would need to be at his peak if he wasn’t then there wouldn’t be any way that any plan could be done. He didn’t see how they could get the creature off of the little island without psychic help, he had no way to get the creature to the sand other than to try and capture it. Yet, he wasn’t sure that it would even be possible to capture these pokemon for whatever reason.

Lucas heard the bit about the plan relying on his team and he raised his brow in question.[color=Limegreen] “I suppose I’ll hear you out. I’m just not sure how much this is really for my benefit at this point, however. I don’t want to sound like a right git, but I can’t imagine how this helps me, or you. Still, please go on, and I’ll listen.”
He said as he yawned covering his mouth with his arm. He listened to the idea with great interest and finally, he nodded his head. He held up his hand slowly “Dark pulse can be made to siphon off and create rings of dark energy. It would be possible, but I would worry that the blasts would be too powerful and would damage the rocks you were going to use. Still, in the form they have been using it would be possible. I would still advise this. I can bring out Erecura, and Lugus as well. Erecura can use mud sport, and mud slap to coat the top of the boulders in a thick layer of mud. This would keep the creature from slipping through any of the cracks that the boulders had between them to create a far more stable boat for it. Lugus can use Silver Wind, this pokemon is a ghost type and if I recall correctly bug type attacks are weak against Ghost pokemon. This means that the wind would be able to push the boat of rocks and mud without doing any kind of serious damage to the ghost pokemon.” He reached into his folds pulling out the four pokeballs that were his team and set them on the sand in front of him “I am ready to help out with this plan whenever you need me to help.”

Denzil scratched at his chin in thought as Lucas voiced his thoughts. It made sense, not the least of which being that too hard a strike would sink the rock ‘boat’, and defeat the purpose of the rescue. A mud padding was feasible and Jacob would be able to help fling the mud. He couldn’t help but think how mush easier this would be if they just had something lighter to levitate, something leak-proof like a bag or even a tied-off jacket. For now they just had to make do, and hope it worked. He turned to Apollo when the Solrock’s gentle hum ebbed away and it floated over to the rest of the group.

Denzil took a breath and gave a nod to the gently floating Solrock. Wind whipped about as Apollo used its affinity with the Earth to slowly lift a rock slab into the air. Sand cascaded from its side back to the ground before it was set down on the water’s edge between the group and their goal. Jacob reappeared with a flash of light and a popping sound. “When you’re ready I need to coat the back of this stone with your Mud Sport, as much as you can.” The Mudbray gave a confused tilt of his head, but stepped up to the rock all the same. He flicked his mane several times to fling splotches of mud onto the makeshift craft until one side was almost as coated with mud as he was.

Before that swarm came around? I’d say you had no benefit to stay beyond choice. Now that they’ve seen our faces, we’re all targets. If this doesn’t get solved we’ll both have ‘gasts chasing us.

By this time Jacob had walked back to them, streaks of sweat making clear trails down his neck and sides. He nuzzled Denzil’s hand when it rested on his head and gave his mane a ruffle. “Rest.” he said with a smile as he recalled his partner. He knelt to check the mudbray’s work and directed his voice back with a note of approval. “I like this idea of yours, and good call about the Pulse. I should have thought about how it could have hurt that Ghost, but you’re right that a Bug move would be better here.” Satisifed with Jacob’s work, he stepped back so Lucas could tag in.

Apollo would levitate the rock when Lucas gave his signal that he was done, and until then would wait nearby. Once clear it would float the craft to the sandbar and wait for the Silver Wind to take it from there.

It seemed that Lucas’ idea was the one they were going with. He restocked and then took out three of the pokeballs that he needed. Ashi, Lugus, and Erecura. He tossed both Lugus and Ashi’s balls out first letting the two remerge. He looked to Ashi and held her the ball which she sniffed frowning. He nodded his head “She won’t like this, but you need to keep her in line. I can’t allow for her to get out of hand. I need you to help me keep her from doing anything stupid.” Ashi nodded her head as they looked to Denzil “Please, give me a moment Denzil, I have to get Erecura to agree with this plan.” He went off towards the edge of the water before he summoned up his mole pokemon.

The moment she emerged she was not happy, she was looking around her claws flexed and ready to go. She hissed at him only to be tackled by Ashi on her back Ashi’s fangs at her throat. The Mole pokemon was terrified, and clearly in shock from the attack. She didn’t struggle, but she panted heavily under the fangs of the Bite Pokemon. Lucas sighed as he moved next to Erecura “My dear, dear Erecura. You see to have misunderstood something very important. You see I have caught you, you are now a part of my pack. You have only two ways to continue on, dead or alive. I would like you alive. You are more wonderful alive. I think you will be a wonderful addition to our pack. Your will to fight is very nice, but I won’t have you standing in our way. Nor will I have you hurting us. You will obey or so help me you won’t live to see the next sunrise. If you do obey, then you will get a nice reward.” He hissed low and hushed so that Denzil wouldn’t be able to hear him.

Erecura didn’t look at all happy with this arrangement, but she knew he was serious. She had seen the others in her group slain by Lucas and the one he was with. She didn’t know why he had spared her, but he had. She would do as he asked. Ashi let Erecura get up after some growls, barks, and other sounds between them. While this was going on Lucas seemed to think about the options and he gave a sigh “I do suppose that is correct. Ghost pokemon are such a hassle sometimes. Oh well, let’s get this finished and we’ll be home free hopefully.” He said sounding resigned and ready to help.

Lucas smiled to Denzil as he pointed to the rock raft when he was allowed to tag in “Erecura, use mud-sport and mudslap to coat the top of that ship in mud. I want no visible trace of the rocks left.” He said with a serious tone of voice. The mole pokemon did just as she was told and when it was done Lucas nodded “You did very good Erecura. When we get out of here I’ll make sure you get your reward.” He said before recalling her to her Pokeball hiding it away with many useless movements. Glancing over at Ashi he smiled “Now sand attack and cover the top with sand, just a light coating.” She turned and did just that; splashing a soft smattering of sand over the top of the raft. With this done Lucas signaled that he was done

Lucas recalled her as well and then looked to Lugus kneeling down and petting his head “Alright Lugus, now show me what you can do. Use your silver Wind to push that raft towards the sandbar and that big sand castle.” He said pointing at the creature and direction in question. The little bug type pokemon began to beat his wings furiously creating the silver wind which did just as they wanted blowing the raft of rocks along to the sandbar so the larger Ghost pokemon could get on it. Once it was on the raft then Lugus would use his silver wind to push the whole thing back towards the main beach only blowing off little flecks of sand and grit hardening the mud from the air that was constantly being pushed against it. So long as Apollo held the raft together and floating then it would arrive at the main shore with its passenger with no great issues.

-Pinned Erecura down until she agreed to 'cooperate'
-Used sand attack to coat the mud in sand to make it more 'inviting' and less sticky to the sand castle pokemon.

-was pinned and threatened by both Lucas and Ashi
-Relucatantly decided to obey under threat of violence and promise of reward
-covered the raft with mud using mud sport and mud slap until it was entirely muddy
-recalled into pokeball

-is using his Silver Wind attack to push the stone raft to the sand castle pokemon so the sand castle pokemon could get on.
-Once the raft was mounted he would use his silver wind to push the raft back towards the main beach and the smaller sand castle pokemon.
