Quick Updates

Weather Conditions

Season: Autumn

With the cooling season of Autumn, Ice-types are starting to re-emerge from their hibernation as Ghost-, Normal-, and Flying-types swarm in the largest numbers they will all year. In comparison, wild Fire- and Bug-type populations are falling in number. The migration of Flying-types to the south in search of warmer weather has also started, as Istin City starts to re-freeze and Autumn marks the beginning of Cypwater Point's rainy season. Handlers and Rogues alike should be wary: Ghost-type powers are boosted during this season, at the cost of being more prone to their triggers.

Character: Namid Waagosh'Giizis

Full Name: Namid "Daanis" Waagosh'Giizis
Age: 20
Gender: Gender Fluid
Sexuality: It's complicated. Men.

Class: Handler
Starting City: Cypwater Point
Patron or Trick Lord: N/A
Merits/Credits/Notches: Lv.01 [ 2.5 / 5 ]
Total Level: Lv.01 [ 2.5 / 5 ]
Condition: Fine
Aptitudes

Overall Appearance:
Namid is very petite as far as men go, about 5'4". He's slender and willowy like his mother, with wrists as delicate as bird's wings. His smooth, coppery skin is often heavily decorated in jewelry from earlobes to belly button. The jewelry itself varies for the most part, other than his gold earrings - hoops two inches in diameter. He wears his hair very long, past his waist, which falls bone straight in a black so dark it reflects blue in the light. Despite his darker coloring, he has piercing gold eyes that perfectly match the bright hues of his jewelry.

Clothing style varies. When he's on the river or in the bayous working, he's more like to wear billowy, loose clothing and tight knee breeches. During his down time, however, he wears lungi in complex knots and wraps or brightly colored swaths of cloth wrapped around his body. His features mirror his mother's in most ways, from his delicately pointed chin to his small, graceful nose. His eyes, however, are supposedly his father's doing. His fingers and palms are calloused from working his whole life but on the whole his hands are quite dainty. His feet are also quite calloused, as he prefers working barefoot over losing shoes in muck. Both ears are notably pierced.
Distinguishing Features:
  • Gold eyes
  • Waifish build
  • Flashy clothes
Overall Personality:
Namid is incredibly gentle. He has a soft heart so full of love and compassion. His feelings are surprisingly easy to bruise. As are most bulwari, Namid is outgoing and warm. He'll strike up conversation with anyone and when he's working he's known to sing all sorts of songs. He feels emotions deeply and isn't afraid to share them. Growing up, he was always encouraged to express himself through song or dance as much as with words. When he's uncertain he does get a little quiet but he tries to push through it and find a way. He's loyal and proud of his heritage. When he wants something, he doesn't give up.

He doesn't know who he is and what he wants in life, which leaves him adrift. He's looking to find himself in the world. It isn't easy but he's prepared to make mistakes and own up to them. But Namid hasn't spent much time outside of his people. He's never been to a big city for more than half a day and only rarely. He has no idea what he's in for and he's incredibly innocent. Lies and deceit aren't something he really understands. He takes things at face value and he has a few superstitious beliefs that may put him in awkward positions.
History:
Namid was born beside the river somewhere between midnight and dawn, when all the stars shone in the sky. That particular night the moon hid herself from view and nothing but starlight and an exhausted mother welcomed the child into the world. In deference to his birth, he was given the name Namid which means star dancer. His people are a nomadic Bulwari clan, one which holds no permanent roots in any part of the region. As such, they travel north during spring and summer, then down south toward fall, following the river. His clan sold wares of all sorts, both in trade with Harperians as middlemen and exquisite jewelry and art they created themselves.

Namid spent all of his life on the water. He's seen the inlets in the Edgewood forest all the way down to the swamps of Cypwater. Once on a whim his clan traveled up to Doran village via the ocean. He was not a fan of that trip - at least, not of the heat and the dry air. Ever since he was young, Namid has felt--not out of place or outcast, so to speak, but unsure. It began first with his Kapaala. On the first anniversary of his birth, his mother planned to present him with the pokemon of their family. She watched over the egg for weeks while caring for Namid who was surprisingly docile for an infant. However, when the egg had yet to hatch many worried it was a bad omen. There was a dance, a ceremony of sorts, to bless the child on his Kapaala that went late into the hours of the night. The egg was nestled in Namid's basket, each keeping the other warm.

At last, before the faint predawn light touched the sky, the egg cracked. The pokemon's hatching awoke the infant and both infants cried into the night, ending the dance just outside. On the platform spread across the river, the clans people gathered to see Natosha and her child emerge with the pokemon. Natosha was born of the Waagosh'Giizis clan, which means moon fox. They took this name over a century ago, when Natosha's five times great grandmother was rescued by an absol during a landslide. This became her closest companion and the chosen pokemon of her lineage. Ever since, each of the Waagosh'Giizis children have been gifted with an absol born of the first absol's line.

Natosh's life was a bit different than those of her clan and her people. Natosh fell in love with a bulwari man of the Navas. A sailor off the coast, a man with whom she shared a summer fling. When they parted ways and her clan went south she thought little of it. Of course, two months later she discovered she was pregnant. Bulwari people raise their young all as one for the most part but parents have a special hand in raising their children. Their child's first pokemon is born of his parents' pokemon if they are compatible. Natosh was nowhere near the first nor the last woman to raise a child as a single bulwari mother. But it did create complications in Namid's life. When it came time for his Kaapala, Natosh bred her beloved absol with a clan member's mightenya. In every generation since the first absol, each child of the Waagosh'Giizis has auspiciously had an absol companion, no matter what breed the other parent was.

Namid was found with a poochyena yowling and cowering with him in the basket. Not only that, Namid's companion was born female. For the most part, pokemon companions mirror gender and the opposite is a sign of some sort. To be both gifted with a pokemon not of his clan and of opposite gender, the omens her clan read were complex and murky. Natosh felt this pain deeply as if it were her own, as if this were her failing as a mother. Even so she raised her child with absolute love and devotion, never marrying or having another child. Namid was raised with so much love and generosity he never wanted for anything at all.

His clan and family members never treated him differently for his unique gifts. In fact, he was praised and coddled for his exquisite voice which is said to bring even the most stalwart heart to tears. He grew healthy and strong, if not bulky or tall. Of course, the consequences of his fate - written into his poochyena's pokeball by his great great grandmother who passed on two years later - would wreak havoc on his life no matter how sweet and simple he felt it was. Namid from a young age was known to mix up clothes and words. One ceremony he might wear a very distinct, bright set of clothes tightly bound to his skin in the traditional masculine dress. The next he stepped onto the platform in the most beautiful sari his mother could afford. He was different and he didn't quite understand how until he reached thirteen when he supposedly grew into a man. For his water companion, Namid was a late bloomer. He kept only his poochyena as a friend and never tried to capture a water type no matter what rare and interesting pokemon fell into his lap. During autumn down near the bayou when the mud grew thick and the bug types buzzed incessantly after the last late season monsoon, Namid discovered a pokemon stuck upside down in the muck.

It was so encased in the crusted swamp Namid struggled to free it without hurting it for hours. Being the one who found it and living in a culture of signs and omens, he didn't go looking for someone to help it nor did he leave it to die. Hours of work, carefully chipping around the creature's flailing feet to avoid hurting it, Namid freed a baby wooper from its muddy coffin. The pokemon latched onto him like a child imprinting on its mother and refused to be parted from him. After six months of this level of devotion, Namid chose to officially capture the wooper as his water companion. Wooper, the second female companion of the young boy.

A pokemon who is often considered the easily confused, oblivious type. Bulwari culture considers the water pokemon one chooses as a companion to inform the personality of the child in question. Now Namid had both female pokemon, one considered a mishap or a mistake and the other an easily confused, lost creature who treated Namid like her mother. As omens go, it was quite the inauspicious lot Namid drew. To an outsider, these simple details seemed more coincidental than fate. But his clan saw it as more than an accident. Add to this Namid's unexpected penchant for female clothing and pronouns at random, he stuck out as very curious even to his own people.

By the time Namid was sixteen, he realized how lost he truly felt. He didn't know who he was. Was he Namid, a young singer who travels the realm with his family? Or was he a confused boy who had strange tastes? Or even more dire, was he a woman born in the wrong body? Hormones and puberty developed him not into a strong young man but a soft and slender person. When he saw his reflection in the water, he didn't know what he was looking at. This uncertainty confused him and left him at odds with his body and his emotions. He held no interest in the female form, mate wise, but he envied them. He found himself attracted to the males of his tribe, not jealous of their properly built physiques. His people didn't have any problem with sexuality but for years Namid couldn't decide if he was a man who loved men or a woman who loved men.

His mother supported every choice he made in life. In fact, when he confessed his insecurities about what and who he was, his mother went one step further. When he went out in more feminine clothes or dolled himself up more like a woman than a man, his mother would call him Daanis, which means daughter. The first time she called him that, he was thrown off kilter. Now the name is a comfort. As a whole, his clan took up the nickname and he answers to both. Their compassion helped him grow into a slightly more confident adult.
