Following a discussion about Ultra Beasts and Legendaries with Chaos, Flight, Astraea, Jade and W, a question burned:If Legendaries are only Legends in Harper, then what Legends could they have inspired? So I'm posting this to see what you all think, what stories you believe were brought about by the Legends themselves. They'll be listed here in order of Generation so please feel free to share your input! Some of the Legendaries already exist as Legends or in various Faiths/Religions, and can be viewed here, or in the Woadarch entry here
Mew - This one feels more plausible, since Mew in the games was a walking DNA storage base, and was believed to be excessively long-lived.
Lugia - How many stories begin with a siren song coming from below the ocean's waves? With the Bulwari people
being aligned with the water, there might be a connection here.
Ho-Oh - Depicted in the games as an observer of humans, and resurrected the three above Legendary Beasts. As mentioned before, Ho-Oh might fit the bill better than Moltres does on this aspect. This one might already be a Legend and I'm just not seeing it's post, since Suicune, Entei and Raikou are already in the Woadarch entry here
, and in the Balican entry here
Jirachi - 'Wish upon a star' material.
Deoxys - Leaning towards 'no' since there's a large amount of DNA-associated data with this Pokémon, and I don't think that subject is covered well in a medieval setting like Harper.
Regirock - Vassals to the mighty Regigigas, hidden away in the secret parts of the world. Could the legends say that this trio were tasked with protecting something, or perhaps warding off would-be treasure hunters from their own demise? The possibilities are there, people! Since rock, ice, and metal are creation mediums, what if the members of this trio were the 'pillars' of shaping with Regigigis as the central Pillar?
Heatran - This one always brings to mind a smith at their forge, especially with it's Fire/Steel Typing and penchant for living in volcanoes.
Regigigas - Regigigas is credited with the creation of Regirock, Regice and Registeel. In addition, legends state that Regigias "towed" the continents into their current positions.
Victini - The Greeks had Gods and Goddesses for just about everything, including victory and champions. Might be something there.
Cobalion - The Swords of Justice are several several Pokémon I think could be associated with valor, wisdom, tenacity, and positive traits attributed most often to Knights.
Keldeo - Aspiring to become a Knight, Keldeo could have spawned the Legend of a Squire that followed their dream.
Meloetta - The muse of Music and Bards?
Tornadus - The Forces of Nature are next. Tornadus represents Wind. I feel I should point out that in the games, the Reflecting mirror changes these three into an alternate form. Don't know how that might affect their Legends, but there's the info. This trio I could see having connections with the Mahosi people
Thundurus - Thundurus represents Lightning.
Landorus - Landorus represents ground as is the leader of the trio.
Kyurem - Kyurem is Wuji and controls ice. The game Pokedex entries say that The three Pokémon were originally one unidentified dragon until their masters, who were twin heroes, began to argue. The older sought the truth and the younger was idealistic and, the dragon, being unable to concede to one side or the other, split into two in response, becoming Reshiram and Zekrom. Kyurem, then, was created by what remained of the original dragon, although a legend in Lacunosa Town claims it fell to the planet in an icy meteor; its ability to fuse with either Reshiram or Zekrom in Black 2 and White 2 with the DNA Splicers and become either White-Kyurem or Black-Kyurem supports the first legend, however. This could tie into how Keldeo and the Swords of Justice faced against it in one of the movies, appearing to be a rite of passage to become a full-fledged Sword.
Zygarde - The game and anime Pokedex entries state that this Dragon/Ground-type Zygarde has been described as the "guardian of the ecosystem". It monitors the ecosystem and will take action when it senses a threat to it. It does whatever is necessary to protect the ecosystem and will not hesitate to destroy any threat even if the threat is another living being.
It is the only Pokémon to have forms that are not or are questionably Pokémon, as its "Zygarde Cells", being simple and incapable of using moves, are not considered Pokémon. Zygarde Cores are Zygarde without any cells and are also unable to use attacks. If enough Zygarde Cells and come together, Zygarde can achieve its 10% Forme, 50% Forme, or its Complete Forme, which is only used if the ecosystem is under threat and Zygarde believes that it will be otherwise outmatched. Zygarde Complete Forme bears power that exceeds Xerneas and Yveltal.
Zygarde also monitors the balance between Xerneas and Yveltal and will take action when that balance is threatened. Maintaining the balance between opposing forces is something we've already covered in this Thread with Rayquaza and Landorus, but perhaps this could be a locational thing? This one might already be in a posting and I'm just not seeing it, as Xerneas and Yveltal already are Faith-based Legends.
Hoopa - The Norse had Loki (Shrugs)
Tapu Koko / Tapu Lele / Tapu Bulu / Tapu Fini - The Guardian Deities are heavily island-themed, so maybe Legends in the Pennant Isles?
Solgaleo / Lunala - The Psychic/Steel-type Solgaleo and the Psychic/Ghost-type Lunala are symbolic of the sun and the moon, being seen as emissaries of those celestial bodies; Solgaleo is called "the beast that devours the sun" while Lunala is known as "the beast that calls the moon." The problem with these two are that the Dex entries list them as Ultra Beasts (Cosmog, Cosmoem, Solgaleo and Lunala are Ultra Beasts and their homeland is the Ultra Space), so I imagine they may fall under the same 'science' issue with the other Ultra Beasts that we keep running into with Mewtwo, Type: Null, etc.
All Ultra Beasts either deal with Science or Wormholes, so I honestly don't see them existing as Legends. The following Pokémon are in a similar vein so will most likely not be included even as Legends or Myths, as they involve technology that does not exist in Harper. It is for this very reason that Pokémon like Rotom and Porygon are a no-go.
Mewtwo, Genesect, Type: Null, Silvally, Magearna
