Quick Updates

Weather Conditions

Season: Summer

The onset of the Summer season has led to a swarming of Fire-, Electric-, and Bug-types, overtaking most populations in the Region. In their place, Water- and Grass-types have retreated to the shade and to cooler areas, while Ice-types have all but vanished. The rising temperatures has also led to the annual thaw of the infamously cold Istin City, though it remains the coldest.

A few moments passed as Ken sought to gather her thoughts and come up with a good enough answer for Russell. She opened her mouth to respond before a scream sounded outside. Ken froze as she fled with Guardswoman Russell outside. Flame followed with a yelp, running after his handler while Purrloin only rolled her eyes and strolled after them at a much slower pace. Purrloin growled under her breath as she slipped through the door after Ken. She paused when she saw the Starly on the ground and licked her lips; the bird look tasty and an easy meal.

Ken froze when she saw the injured bird, gasping and dropping to peer at it carefully, her eyes softening in sympathy. Flame barked in excitement, jumping forward to sniff at the Starly but Ken pushed him gently back as Russell contained the Starly in a pokeball. Ken stood back up, thinking with a worried look on her face. For once she showed true emotion as words rushed out of her mouth, "We need a healer, is there one nearby?" she asked, voice edged with panic.

Flame picked up on his handler's anxiety as he yelped and yipped in excitement. He fidgeted and bounced up and down, wanting to have a closer look at the pokeball. He even attempted to prop his front paws on Russell's leg to get at the pokeball. Purrloin just snorted at him, idiot mutt. All she thought about was how good the Starly would taste. She purred at the thought, licking her lips again.

Ken scowled down at Purrloin, anticipating what she was thinking as she continuously licked her lips. She pushed Purrloin back. she wouldn't let the cat Pokemon harm the poor Starly. Flame smirked at Purrloin, taking joy in her scolding. Purrloin bared her fangs slightly at Flame, tilting her head slightly so Ken wouldn't see. "You'll stop that if you know what's good for you. You just don't know what its like to have fun. You've never been wild," Purrloin hissed.

Flame cocked his head to the side, not entirely understanding what Purrloin meant. He shook his head vigorously to get rid of the confusion that lingered. Kennith, oblivious to the argument her two Pokemon were having to look back at Russell, anxious to take Starly to the nearest healer, wanting to run all the way to a healer to save the poor injured Starly.

Kennith’s quick shout for directions to a healer pleased Guardswoman Russell, who took a step back and allowed the greenhorn to take command of the situation.

Not that Kennith could take too much control, however - a young man stepped forward, wringing his hands nervously as he spoke. “My uncle’s a healer, but I don’t - he can be a little fussy when it comes to taking new clients,” he said sheepishly. “He works with two other healers, though, Wren and Cobalt - don’t know how he got his name, but Cobalt’s pretty good, if surly. Wren’s expensive, but she might help…”

Guardswoman Russell nodded at the young man. “What do you think, Kennith?” She seemed to be eyeing the young man with something more than professional agreement; there was a hint of doubt in her eyes. Did she doubt him, or perhaps something he said? Or was there something else about the situation that Kennith hadn’t picked up on yet?

“I can show you the way; it’s not too far from here. I hope this helps,” the young man said as he took off. Whatever reservations Guardswoman Russell had were quickly abandoned as she followed him, expecting Kennith to follow her as well. For several minutes, the three would run through various streets before heading down an alley towards what looked like a warehouse.

Inside the warehouse, which looked very large for the people inside, three people were at work. The first, a bearded man with an apron tied around his neck, fussed with herbs as he tended to what looked like an eelektrik with several deep gouges in its side. The pokemon made no noise, stoically enduring its treatment as the healer, equally silent, offered no reassurance to the nearby handler, a petite woman. Another woman stood nearby, and it seemed like she was fighting about something with a handler carrying a stunky emanating a most peculiar smell. She seemed hot-headed, tossing her hands up in the air frustratedly as the handler tried to dump the stunky in her hands. Finally, a third man looked up from his work on a poliwhirl to look up at the door, and the young man who had escorted Kennith and Guardswoman Russell spoke quietly.

“You stay by the door, I’ll see what I can do,” the young man said, approaching the third man with a nervous gait.

A booming voice would echo, “Joshua, what were you thinking?” before the conversation went soft enough for Kennith to only hear bits and pieces. She would hear “starly” from the young man and what sounded like an emphatically hissed “foreigner” in response, but other than that, it would be up to her lip-reading skills to get the job done.

Upon hearing the conversation, the female healer looked over at Kennith and Guardswoman Russell, her eyes lingering on the harp on the Guardian’s armor before she turned back to her argument. The bearded man, presumably Cobalt, did nothing at all, staying fixated on the eelektrik even as it began to faintly emit sparks.

“What do you think?” Guardswoman Russell said softly. “Is it worth a shot?”

The pair did have several bargaining chips at their disposal - Guardswoman Russell was a Guardian, and many healers did not want to cross Guardians; they had gold as well as the potential for future aid at their disposal; there was also the matter of Joshua, who seemed to be on their side for some reason, even though his uncle didn’t seem eager to get involved. Kennith could come up with other strategies, as well - or simply approach a healer and wing it.

Which, if any, of the healers would Kennith approach first? Or would she take her chances somewhere else?

Ken shuffled her feet when Russell stepped back to let her assume more command, feeling more nervous and uncomfortable but not letting her face show it. She didn't want Russell to think she wasn't up to taking control. Still she breathed a sigh of relief, glad to have found help so quickly. A healer could be achieved fairly quickly. Flame yelped with relief, mirroring Ken. He was excited to go and find help for the poor, injured Starly. Purrloin leaned back on her haunches, eyes narrowed in suspicion and curious to see to watch the situation unfold. Ken listened carefully to everything the young man said, storing the information in her mind. Flame listened attentively too, tense and alert as he stood next to Ken, pressing firmly into her leg to give his support.

Ken took off after Russell and the man, Flame following with a sharp bark and trotting by his handler's side. Purrloin rolled her eyes as she slowly started after the three humans and the stupid Growlithe. She picked up the pace to catch up, sliding down the street and sticking to the shadows. Purrloin slid into the warehouse after her handler. Flame growled at Purrloin, forcing his way between Ken and Purrloin, while showing Purrloin his fangs. Purrloin rolled her eyes before making a show of slipping past Flame's snapping jaws to run around the other side of Ken and rub against her leg while purring. "Purrloin not now," Ken scolded, pushing her away. Purrloin scowled at the smirk Flame made a show of showing the feline.

Ken carefully watched the people at work. Her eyes were quickly drawn to the woman arguing with the handler with the Stunky. She assumed the woman must be Wren but she couldn't tell which one the male healers were. Purrloin folded her ears against her head, her sensitive cat ears find the woman's arguing to loud for her liking. Flame only batted at his nose, hating the scent of blood and disease that emanated from this place.

Ken watched as the young man left to talk to the third healer in hushed voices. Ken had no idea what they were saying, ears strained to hear the conversation. Purrloin would've caught much of the conversation if she cared. Instead of even attempting to pay attention, she curled up to relax and maybe even take a nap. Ken watched curiously, wanting to know what was being said. She assumed the young man, Joshua, was talking to his uncle so that meant the other man, hunched over the Eelektrik must be Cobalt.

Ken turned back to Russell when she was spoken to. She nodded her head, willing to take a risk and trust one of the healers. She had the gold to pay for their aid and assumed they would respect and give aid to a Guardian. "I think we should try it," Ken answered, eyes flicking from one healer to the next and trying to decide who to ask for help first.

Ken felt less than eager to approach Joshua's uncle, feeling instant distrust coming off him. She looked over at Cobalt and studied him for a moment. He seemed too preoccupied to want to help them, seeming unapproachable. Ken then turned to the woman. Her eyes had lingered on Ken's harp on her armor, showing she had not only acknowledged their presence, she had acknowledged they were Guardians. Not to mention, Wren didn't seem too happy with her current customer. Ken approached the woman slowly and cautiously.

"Excuse me," she began sheepishly. She cleared her throat before repeating herself in a much louder, more assertive voice, "Excuse me." Flame pressed into Ken's leg again, trying to give his handler strength. Purrloin slightly opened one eye to see what Ken was doing before closing it again and continuing with her light slumber. If the healer had paused from her argument to notice Ken, Ken would continue speaking. "I need a healer to help with an injured Starly," Ken explained.
