Weather Conditions

Season: Autumn

With the cooling season of Autumn, Ice-types are starting to re-emerge from their hibernation as Ghost-, Normal-, and Flying-types swarm in the largest numbers they will all year. In comparison, wild Fire- and Bug-type populations are falling in number. The migration of Flying-types to the south in search of warmer weather has also started, as Istin City starts to re-freeze and Autumn marks the beginning of Cypwater Point's rainy season. Handlers and Rogues alike should be wary: Ghost-type powers are boosted during this season, at the cost of being more prone to their triggers.

Character: Eryn Norwood
younger eryn, played by carl sandqvist

Full Name: Eryn Norwood
Age: 26
Gender: Non-binary (they/them pronouns)
Sexuality: No one knows for sure

Class: Order Rogue
Starting City: Istin City
Patron or Trick Lord: Trick Stan Craft
Notches: Lv. 11 [ 1.5 / 15 ]
Condition: Fine
Aptitudes

Overall Appearance:
The first impression that Eryn usually makes is not particularly memorable and absolutely forgettable as simply another in the crowd. On average days, Eryn seems well put-together, with clean and tidy clothing and their dark shoulder-length hair neatly tied back, as well as a tan skin tone from a life in the sands of Miramossa. They stand at an average height for their age and birth-sex, though the latter isn't easy to spot--they only have a hint of curves in the first place, and those are usually dampened by the layers of clothing that they wear.

Efficiency and comfort is more important to them than appearance when they work, and their clothing and equipment reflect that: leather armors, a warm cloak, and the daggers well-cared for by their side. Where they hide their throwing knives is a mystery, as they are typically hidden in easy-to-reach but hard-to-see places; the loose tunics and shirts that they wear does nothing to aid the casual viewer.

However, when the situation calls for it they dress differently, wearing trousers and skirts alike without a problem--although they do identify as non-binary (being neither male nor female), with their tidy, straight hair and small curves from their birth-sex of being female it is easy to mistake them as a rough-and-tumble woman or a man with hints of feminine looks about them. Oftentimes Eryn uses this to their advantage, and will change appearance as needed in their work; though they do not particularly like attracting attention, there is not an outwardly hostile aura about them, and they speak with friendly words and how-do-you-do's when introduced.

Despite all this, in fights Eryn moves fluidly and with control; a decade of working with daggers, as well as the formal training that their father had given them in their childhood, means that they are efficient in their movements and adept at dealing fatal blows. This ease extends to throwing knives as well, as similar years of experience with them has made Eryn quite accurate with the projectile weapons, though it's not their first choice of weaponry.

Their voice-acting isn't anything to be taken lightly at, either. They can shift between accents from different places of the region with little to no notice beforehand, though it's much more likely for them to hold onto a single identity for a length of time than anything else. Their "root" persona, however, of Eryn Norwood, handler from Miramossa, uses plainspeech and neutral, Traveller's Common: the sort of accent that is steeped in the dialects of everywhere and nowhere.
Distinguishing Features:
  • Usually indistinguishable in a crowd, but if one looks closer:
  • Wears loose clothing
  • A bloody pidgeot feather strung on a cord, hidden under their clothing
Overall Personality:
In a word, Eryn is attentive. They listen with a smile, and are a master of small-talk; it isn't an uncommon sight to see them talking with a grandmother while shopping for groceries, or listening to a small child that they had come across. Though they do not go out of their way to speak with people, they do not turn the interactions away, either--they are a naturally quiet person that has gained the ability to listen without giving away too much of their self. Though they smile frequently and often, a laugh is a rare thing to get from them; and though years past this attentiveness was built up through a sense of empathy, now it is merely a part of how Eryn interacts with people.

However, they do not do said interaction the same way every time--as a person that identifies as non-binary, they will use different sets of pronouns depending on how the other person perceives them. Being treated as male or female does not matter to Eryn; rather, they have turned their orientation into a weapon, and changes the gender that they present as as needed. They see no problem in being the friendly young man for a night, or a quiet and shy woman at a festival. They change attitudes and names as easily as they change pronouns, and such an act comes to them as easily as breathing. It is difficult to explain how one is neither male or female to a stranger, after all, and more-so if they are not accepting of it; and consequently, this false-facing has been honed to a sharp, fine edge.

Through long observation, it is not uncommon to notice one thing about Eryn: they have an absolute sense of self, no matter in what they do. They will listen to people and be able to empathize with them without falsehood, but when it comes to the dark and the night they know where their loyalties lie. In this Eryn is immutable: though it is not blind loyalty, they know to what organization they belong, no matter the fact that they would be perfectly able to operate as their own person. It is not fear that keeps them tied to the Order, but rather a sort of sense of stability--they have been a part of it for a decade, and see no reason to change. However, this reluctance to leave does not extend to other parts of their life. They see change as a necessary and inevitable thing, and will often try to reason with those who do not cope well with it.

As Eryn may be mistaken for--and often is, to tell the truth--as an earnest person with a penchant for being friendly to many and close to few, it would come as a surprise that when it comes down to the wire, Eryn is a highly decisive and efficient person. They only carry what is absolutely necessary, and if they must resort to plain violence and ruthlessness to accomplish a goal, then so be it. People do not survive in the shadows of the Order without being relentless in some way, and Eryn has not survived the years they have by being one to shy away from brutality; their said absolute sense of self only aids in this. They keep secrets under smiles and shadows, self-taught at a young age and reinforced by their livelihood, and it is a rare day when Eryn divulges something about themselves that is more than common knowledge.

But when they do, it is likely to a close friend, one that they will keep in contact with for extended periods of time. Not all of them are to the same disguise, of course, and certainly not in the same name--but those that do are likely to be knowledgeable of what they truly do for a living, even if they never realize their birth identity, or are those that would not care either way. Eryn is not in the habit of leaving behind loose threads to clean up afterwards, and in the case that they do, they are quick to fix the problem--preferably, permanently.
History:
Eryn grew up in the sands and changing secrets of Miramossa, the child of a single father who worked with the Order when the sun set and without a mother or siblings. Perhaps this was why their father was particularly lenient, even when they cut off their hair at the shoulder and responded to male pronouns as easily as they did female ones; if this was the truth, they never got the chance to know. Miramossa was more of a rest-stop than anything else, and the street rats were too wild for a quiet child like Eryn had been--when their father died during their fifteenth winter, there was nowhere left to go than to the sands and the shadows that it hid.

They joined the Order with nothing more than the two daggers that their father had left them and a pidgey that had been the runt of its nest. Another partner was more fit for a rogue, some argued, and even the Trick had looked doubtful at their choice; but the pidgey was one that Eryn's father had brought back one moonless night, and even then they had known about camaraderie. The common bird meant that it was easier for Eryn to pose as a quiet and harmless handler, however, and the years that they'd spent nodding along in conversations and tucking away information were honed in those first years in the Order, their mettle tested and refined in the years to come.

They were not trusted at first, being considered too young to work for the Masque, but Eryn had not expected to be. Simply having a steady source of income was enough, though perhaps it would have been a better idea to set out as a handler, having no ties to anyone except for the ones they chose to keep. But the Order was familiar, its work and its people and its methods all those that they had grown up with, and so it was with diligence that they worked and was eventually accepted among the ranks for.

The violence came later, when information gathering missions became dangerous and turned to use steel and weaponry rather than words. The training that Eryn's father had given them when they were younger--young and vulnerable and he was worried about a quiet child without a means of defense--could only take them so far. It was when Eryn was sixteen, a year after joining the Order, that they were given formal dagger training. They picked it up fairly quickly, and it was during the same time period that they learned to use their efficiency--the same one that had kept them from running out of coin too early, or getting information in the quickest manner--and turn it into relentlessness. Assassination became another tool in their arsenal, another option that their superiors might ask of them, though theirs was more of a quiet and unexpected sort than the flashy and middle-of-the-night ones that the regulars took.

Eventually a decade had passed and left them an experienced Order Rogue. Not once had it occurred to them to leave; why should they, when the Order took care of its own? It had taken them in when their father had died, after all, no matter the fact that they'd been a fifteen-year-old kid with a canny ear, a bird, and two daggers stuffed into their belt. The work was not bad, and over the years they'd found more pokemon--more partners--to call their own. It was with them that they traveled up to Istin City with full expectations of the trip taking only a week, no more.

Eryn Norwood is exactly everything and nothing like what they present themself to be: a handler, a woman, a man, a rogue, a guardian, a person of prestige, honorable beyond reproach, would backstab you without a second thought, dangerous, harmless.

They could do so much more than work for Trick Craft, they know. At the same time they - do not not care, not quite, though it's true that the fact they could retire and leave is a thought best left for darker days. The work is steady and the pay is good and for now, that is good enough.

(There's nothing to say that Eryn couldn't vanish if they so wished, however. Craft might know a lot of their secrets but he does not know them all, and Eryn has made sure to keep at least a few close to their chest and up their sleeves.)

Ambition, people ask of them, and they would laugh, or curse, or raise an eyebrow and grin with predator's teeth, depending on whom is asked. Norwood, however, does not seek anything more than what they have. They are content, and have no plans to give up any of the Order's advantages any time soon.

But the tides move, and the world shifts, and they stand poisoned on the precipice, ready to move with it.

Character Details

Eryn is an agent who specializes in the various identities that they keep. They have a list of names to use for improvisation, as well as for deep cover; and they maintain both with a steady hand and an inexplicably precise memory. Rattling Eryn while they were under one of their assumed names was an exercise that honed many a Miramossa Masque agent's perception, many years ago; now, they've become a myth.

Common Identities and Names
Len Abbot, Marchton City

Maria, Cypwater Point

Lady Elizabath Anson, Seaway City (Harper's Pass)

Important NPCs

They do not have any relatives, or at least, not any that they know of. They grew up a single child with a single father, who died not long before their fifteenth birthday. In the absence of blood-siblings Eryn has cultivated relationships with people from all over the Region, though not many know of them as anything more than their identities or as a simple handler from Miramossa. And, frankly, they prefer to keep it that way.

Marcus Wright, Miramossa

Albert Wilkins, Miramossa

Conall Osborn, Cypwater Point

.

More about Lady Bianca Holden.

.

More tba. Still working on this.
