Quick Updates

Weather Conditions

Season: Autumn

With the cooling season of Autumn, Ice-types are starting to re-emerge from their hibernation as Ghost-, Normal-, and Flying-types swarm in the largest numbers they will all year. In comparison, wild Fire- and Bug-type populations are falling in number. The migration of Flying-types to the south in search of warmer weather has also started, as Istin City starts to re-freeze and Autumn marks the beginning of Cypwater Point's rainy season. Handlers and Rogues alike should be wary: Ghost-type powers are boosted during this season, at the cost of being more prone to their triggers.

Character: Laila Blackwood

Full Name: Laila Blackwood
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Homosexual

Class: Rogue
Starting City: Fough Place
Patron or Trick Lord: N/A
Notches: Lv. 01 [ 0.7 / 5 ]
Total Level: Lv. 01 [ 0.7 / 5 ]
Condition: Fine

Overall Appearance:
If one was to describe Laila, then perhaps the term 'ordinary' might suit her surprisingly well. Rising up to a meager five feet and three inches tall she might be considered just a little bit below the average on terms of build, and her thin frame is accompanied by a little tan as a result of her frequent trips outdoors. Nevertheless, the determined look in her eyes and the nimbleness of her motions that Laila is undeniably a survivor who has seen her fair share of dangerous situations.

If one was to describe one of Laila's charms, then it would likely be her eyes. Her eyes, a light grey color have a certain mysterious allure to them, and some people often seem to believe that whenever a storm would approach, they would turn a darker tint, albeit this is merely speculation that has led many children to try to do a staring contest against Laila, to amusing yet embarrassing results. Another feature, perhaps a more noticeable one at that is the fact Laila always has some sort of covering, usually a scarf covering her neck. The true nature of this accessory is found in the existence of physical reminder of a past event. If one was to lower the scarf, they would very easily notice the darker coloration around her throat, a reminder of the injury she was inflicted with during one of the incidents.

Her chestnut brown colored hair is usually kept at a shoulder-length, and seems surprisingly enough well-maintained. Quite likely a result of her fondness of a certain memento that came in the form of a brush. True enough, while her hair and the well-developed feminine features she possesses might suggest otherwise, her clothes would easily reconfirm that Laila is someone who struggled her way through life. No fancy dresses or glorious glittering armors decorate her closet, instead the type of outfits she is prone to wear tend to be toward more simple attires. A leather-based outfit that is made up from a collection of cheap hides, and the type of boots you'd see a traveler wear on the road. That, alongside the simple cloak would be what describes Laila's appearance in detail.
Distinguishing Features:
Overall Personality:
To describe Laila, is akin to describing an onion, it is concealed by layers and only by peeling each layer and giving it a detailed look can one truly come to comprehend the core of the individual that she is. The first layer is often said to be the thickest and most difficult one to peel away, and for Laila this is especially the case. In the end, if someone continuously gets burnt in their attempts to show kindness to others, it's only natural for them to become afraid of being burnt yet again, right? This was exactly the case for Laila. Ever since the first incident during her childhood the girl became the source of a local superstition. The loss of her beloved adoptive parents, and the cold treatment of the villagers that followed caused Laila to pull a shell around her feelings. By adopting a distant, and seemingly indifferent demeanor the girl attempted to close off her heart from the world, in fear of being burnt once again. It's quite clear that Laila's personality is slightly different than most. The first, and perhaps most noticeable trait to this layer is associated with Laila's seemingly cold and Apathetic nature toward her fellow humans. Due to the type of treatment she received during her childhood there is only one thing of importance for Laila, to track down her true parents, and for that goal the end justifies the means. As a result Laila wouldn't shy away from manipulating people, or even kill them if necessary, and without a second thought crossing her mind.

It's quite noticeable that Laila isn't the type to express her emotions through expressions to strangers, believing such things to be a weakness for others to exploit. Instead she has decided to adopt a figurative mask, usually concealing her emotions behind a neutral expression, and a emotionless tone. Indeed, she might appear as a traditional cold and cruel survivor who is willing to do anything to survive, but at the same time there is still the fact this is only one side to her. Toward Pokémon Laila shows a remarkably different demeanor, one that clearly seems an echo to the gentle girl she had once been. Laila is incredibly protective over the Pokémon in her care, perhaps because she believes those creatures are much more genuine when it comes to expressing their true feelings and intentions, what erases Laila's suspicion about what others might think, or whether they are scheming something or not, due to the honesty in those Pokémon's actions.

If one does gain Laila's trust she seems to show a more gentle and timid demeanor, a bashfulness likely associated with her inexperience on aspects of friendship and companionship. It's also during those moments that Laila's traumas, and the vulnerabilities associated with them become more evident. The first and perhaps foremost ones is Laila's fear of the dark. It's easy to notice that moving outdoors during the evening is quite stressful for her, the shadows that prowl the night making her borderline paranoid, and when cloaked in true darkness the poor girl truly develops a hysteria. This fear is associated with the first incident. When some Pokémon had been provoked into a rampage by unknown means during the middle of the night, Laila had been forced to hide herself, the creeping darkness that surrounded her, accompanied by the feral growls of the rampaging Pokémon would have been enough to traumatize any child. Laila had been forced to experience this an entire night, till at dusk the Guardians of Dedrius arrived to slay the beasts, and when the sounds that came from outside reached her, the girl broke out into loud cries, to be found by the guardians. Ever since that event Laila always has some source of light with her, for the darkness brings forth the terrifying memories of the past, and it isn't unheard of for the girl to have a mental breakdown if she is exposed to the dark for too long.
History:
With great power, comes an even greater responsibility. And then, you have some powers that are so great, that no human should be given the responsibility to shoulder such a burden. This was what the Blackwood family firmly believed. The Blackwood were quite a special family, likely because they were mages. However, this story isn't about the Blackwood family, but about a very specific member of their family. When Jonathan Blackwood's wife, Elizabeth had grown pregnant, an event normally associated with positive feelings like happiness and hope, the birth surrounding their child was a more grim one. You see, according to a close relative of the Blackwood family Elizabeth's child was said to be the subject of a prophecy. It was a prophecy that said the child would become born with a magical aptitude never seen before in a human, and that during a great time of strife, she would be the one to decide the fate of the mages as a whole. Superstition for sure, but in a family that had such close ties to magic, there had been more than enough reason to remain wary of such stories.

In the end it took all their influence and connections to keep the prophecy a secret, for Jonathan and Elizabeth had already been determined to make a decision. They didn't want their child to grow up with the same negative influence magic had upon their lives. In the end magic was still feared among the common folk, so as a result the night of their child's birth, a daughter that was given the name Laila, the Blackwood family decided to carry out a ritual that could only be described as a taboo: to rob Laila of her magic potential. It was a complicated ritual, one that would have taken an entire day, but with the aid of some like-minded companions who feared the danger Laila could become if left in the hands of the Mage's guild, who surely would use her as a weapon. The ritual was fairly complex, but in laymen terms it involved draining the very energy that made Laila capable of using magic. In the end, as one might had expected the Blackwood family decided to hide Laila's existence from the mage's guild, by leaving her in the care of friends from Jonathan's childhood.

They were an elderly couple, friend and mentor alike for Jonathan before he joined the Mage's guild, and even afterwards they remained one of his most precious sources of emotional support and guidance. Of course, without a child of their own the elderly couple was eager to take in the newborn child, and although the parting from their daughter was hard, Elizabeth had vowed that she would ensure Laila's safety. This was made possibly from the devoted loyalty of Elizabeth's Pokémon partners, a pair of Absol that had given birth on the same night as Laila was born. Of course Elizabeth decided this must had been a sign, and after sealing a fragment of Laila's magic inside a pendant, one that would ensure that only when Laila opened the locker, a small painting that seemed to shift between a drawing of her father, her mother, and an Absol. Finally she handed it over to the Absol, giving it the instructions to protect the pendant, and watch over Laila from amidst the shadows.

For ten years Laila enjoyed an ordinary childhood. Certainly, she had her suspicions about the fact the elderly couple weren't related to her by blood, but the kindness and warmth they gave her made that detail insignificant, to her they were the person she called 'Mama and Papa'. As Laila grown up in those ten years she clearly shown to be a bit of an adventurous lass. With the elderly couple having had a history as herbalists, the fact they lived nearby the Edgewood often led Laila on little adventures alongside them, adventures that mostly involved her going around the backyard and the outskirts of the forest to identify the various plants and herbs she spotted.

It was the life of a naive and innocent girl, perhaps a bit timid toward others, but she was a gentle soul at heart. However, this all changed at the night leading to her tenth birthday. You see, on her fifth birthday, while unknown to Laila a rainstorm had raged outside, and the villagers said the next day they had chased away a wild Pokémon that had been prowling around the village... an Absol to be specific. When this event repeated itself on the night of her tenth birthday, few people paid head to the ominous warning the Absol's return had represented... For indeed, several hours after it was chased from the village something 'happened'.

The rumors and stories about that night are plenty, of how something or someone had angered several powerful Pokémon from within the Edgewood. It was not unheard of for wild Pokémon to emerge, but for the denizen of the deepest reaches of the forest, the most dangerous ones to emerge was a downright disaster. In a single night the entire village was wiped from the map, and while Laila's parents hid the girl, telling her not to move till her parents came for her, they never returned... The feral cries of the creatures continued, the darkness shrouding her, and despite her fear she tried her best to keep the promise to her parents. When dawn approached, the darkness slowly growing weaker as the first rays of sunlight came, the sound of the Guardians from Dedrius arriving, the reassurance the predators had finally been slain, caused the girl to break out into a hysteria of sobs and cries, to be found by one of the guardians.

They called it a miracle at that time, the fact the girl was the only survivor of the village, but those days... they call her the cause of it. The reason behind this superstition? To understand that we need to travel five more years into the future. While Laila had spend several years in the care of the people of Dedrius, a relative of a member of her village heard about her survival, and pleaded for her to move over to their settlement near the mountains in the north. It was an odd request, but it seemed the person believed her to be a living 'connection' to the sister she had lost during the rampage. In the end it was a request she accepted, and while she was still a little hesitant, she was willing to at least give it a try.

For Laila it was a bit of an awkward time, the lady who took her in seemed rather obsessed with comparing her to her late sister, and despite Laila's attempts to make her accept the truth, the gentleness of the woman reminded her of the loving parents she had lost, and in the end she submitted to this unhealthy act. Even more terrifying was the fact she was rarely allowed to leave the cottage the two of them lived in, for her 'safety' so to speak. Then again, the hellish nightmare finally begun during her fifteenth birthday. Just like the previous years an Absol emerged from the wild, just to be chased away, but this disaster was worse than the other... An Avalanche had struck the village from the snowy mountains, and as a result most of the village had been destroyed. Even more terrifying was the fact that the house Laila stayed in, closest to the Avalanche had been mostly spared. Sure it was covered in snow, but the destruction should have left the house in ruins, and the two inhabitants dead... However, both had escaped the disaster with only their hearts shaken by the incident... and then it begun.

"Isn't it weird how she is always spared from those disasters?"

    "Luck, or maybe something else..."

"I seen it myself! The Absol was prowling near her house!"

"A child of Absol she is!"

"You... You killed my sister! You're the one who took her, vile Child of Misfortune!"

It wasn't the rumors or the superstition that hurt her the most, but the words spoken by the very woman she had lived with those five years that burnt so deeply. She had willingly sacrificed her own identity for the sake of granting that person some peace of mind, and this was how her kindness was repaid? After the incident rumors said the Child of Absol disappeared from the surface of the planet, and perhaps this was indeed the case. Emotionally hurt by this unjust behavior, and the betrayal she had to endure, Laila returned to the ruins of her old village near the Edgewood, seemingly seeking sanctuary in the solitude she found there. With the help of some woodcutters from Dedrius, who didn't know her and sympathized with her situation, the girl succeeded in turning the ruins of her adoptive parent's house into a cottage, her own shelter away from the world... at least till she became twenty. She still remembered the event clearly, of how a cloaked figure passed the ruins, and stopped by her house. He didn't ask anything, instead humming curiously as he declared that at long last events would be set into motion, and that the truth would find her in due time. A cryptic message, but before she had been able to ask anything the man had disappeared from sight.

Anything Else:
I'd just like to note the fact once more that the 'incidents' in Laila's life were not caused by her magic, this is simply impossible since, like her history states she lost her ability to cast magic due to a forbidden ritual. Better said, she will never gain the abilities of a mage, unless admins themselves deem it permit-table through story achievements.

For those curious, the incidents were actually 'natural disasters' provoked by the bad guy in Laila's story. The rampaging Pokémon were provoked by said individual, and only thanks to her adoptive parents sacrifice, and the Guardians timely arrival did she survive it.

Incident two followed the same pattern, but the Absol ensured her house didn't get consumed by the Avalanche. for the third incident, that's just the Great Schism starting on Laila's birthday.

Retiring Gregory for her~

I'd like to transfer Gregory's Nyx (Zorua) 2 rare candies, and 100 gold (to be obtained icly later on)
