Quick Updates

Weather Conditions

Season: Autumn

With the cooling season of Autumn, Ice-types are starting to re-emerge from their hibernation as Ghost-, Normal-, and Flying-types swarm in the largest numbers they will all year. In comparison, wild Fire- and Bug-type populations are falling in number. The migration of Flying-types to the south in search of warmer weather has also started, as Istin City starts to re-freeze and Autumn marks the beginning of Cypwater Point's rainy season. Handlers and Rogues alike should be wary: Ghost-type powers are boosted during this season, at the cost of being more prone to their triggers.

Overall Appearance:
Nicknamed Lucky for happenstance of the popular saying “The 3rd time’s the charm,” Lucius Lancaster III is the oldest remaining male of the Lancaster family line at the age of 18. A dashing smile and old amber eyes hide the pain of losing his father (also named Lucius) to disease when he was a mere 7 years old. Without his father, Lucky was all but forced to run the Lancaster Farm alongside his mother, older sister and two younger brothers. At 5’9”, Lucky earned himself a lean, athletic build that could only be developed from days spent working laboriously under the blistering hot sun. Over the years, his skin slowly transformed from pasty white into a golden tan as his then dirty blonde hair was converted into more of a bleach blonde color.

Calloused hands and a general lack of hygiene are evident through his years on the farm. Though farmer by upbringing, his style of dress indicates what he wanted most out of life—adventure. A dirty white tunic, forever unbuttoned so as to feel the wind on his bare flesh, and a pair of blue-dyed leather pants fashioned by his mother were his staple, accompanied by a pair of tanned and tattered, fingerless leather gauntlets, worn leather boots and a patched-up travel sack. A leather cinch was wrapped around his waist to hold small items like a coin purse or sack of berries. Of course, he never could forget his most prized possession: His grandfather's old bandana that his grandmother gave him after losing his father, which bore an emblazoned Arcanine on the face of it. A permanent bite mark rests on his left calf, all that remains of his near-death experience with a wild Houndour. All he seems to remember from the event is a blinding flash of light as he lost consciousness before he woke up in his bed a few days later.

Other than the clothing that he wears, Lucky holds few personal items. His travel bag holds only a bruised apple. The cinch at his waist carries nothing but a small hunting knife that he primarily used to whittle away at small blocks of wood. The only item of significance he carried was tucked away inside his tunic. A rusty monocular he had obtained as a birthday gift from his Grandma Etna that made it easier for Lucky to watch and study Pokemon, one of his favorite pastimes.
Distinguishing Features:
  • Lucky's signature bandana
  • Scar on his left calf
Overall Personality:
Lucky had always been a dreamer. Even as a little boy he would scale the farmhouse until he made it to the roof (a tendency that drove his mother and grandmother crazy) where he would sit for hours fantasizing about some grand adventure. Longing for freedom, the boy cared not for the grueling work on the farm, constantly throwing a temper tantrum whenever his father, Lucius, demanded he get back to work. That is, until one harsh winter brought a terrible illness that took his father's life.

Only 7 when his father's life was taken from him, Lucky was left the eldest male of the house along with his younger brothers William and Jonathon being 6 and 3 respectively. Even when his father still lived, the family struggled to make ends meet. As a result, Lucky was forced to mature sooner than most children his age--the grueling work on the farm suddenly became largely his responsibility. As fate would have it, Lucky's spirit and longing for freedom never diminished, though it did take a back seat in his life for many years.

Death unsettled the young man, his father's death in particular. As such, he developed a soft spot for those that appeared defenseless, but he was still never one for combat. Instead, he aided to those in need by utilizing a hit and run technique, his first strike intended to direct the attention towards himself, then finding a way to escape the predicament altogether. For these purposes, Lucky never carried large items in an effort to maximize his escapability, opting to weild only a small hunting knife. Generally, the knife was quite artlessly used to whittle away at small blocks of wood or to cut slices of fruit rather than for any of its intended purposes.

Farm life was uneventful to say the least, leaving Lucky to become engrossed in pokemon watching, studying the local pokemon's habits, diets, and various natures using his rusty monocular obtained as a birthday present from his grandmother so long ago. Occasionally, one of the three Lancaster women would take in an injured or lost soul, people and pokemon alike. Whenever the guest was a pokemon, Lucky seized the opportunity to study it closer, though he tried to be careful to not unsettle the creature with his curiosity. But when a traveler was brought in...oh, it was another story entirely. People were not like pokemon in the slightest. For starters, they could talk back! After years of only having his family and the quiet whispering of the wind, Lucky felt no remorse in pestering the travelers for stories. Stories of the places they've been. Stories of the people they've met. Stories of the pokemon they've seen. Anything that could give him something almost real to cling to. Something to dream about. But their stay was always too short and they always left Lucky desperately wanting to go with them.

Never given the opportunity to leave the farm, Lucky's mother and sister usually opted to go in his stead because he "had duties on the farm that he simply could not be allowed to leave." as they had put it. The reverse psychology of the matter (though he was clueless to the science) caused him to crave interaction from people and pokemon alike, adding further fuel to his flaming desire to set out on his own adventure. Try as he might to argue his desires with his mother, her strongest argument was, "What if there was a storm?" Bright lights especially frightened the young man ever since he was but a babe; anything ranging from a bolt of lightning to the pokemon move itself. After also being exposed to a bright flash during the incident where he got his scar, the two seemed connected in a way. Something about them seemed to make the scar on his calf burn, though he wasn't sure if it was truly the scar or simply his mind playing tricks on him. Of course, Lucky would casually brush off the question and continue the debate from another angle.

Though his fear was strange, stranger still was the fact that Lucky was not in any way afraid of Houndour, the pokemon that caused him so much pain. He believed that he didn't fear this creature because he understood it--it was simply hungry and doing what it could to survive. Yes, Lucky understood the feeling quite well. In fact, he felt somewhat remorseful for what he had done. In saving the Pidgey from certain death, he may have caused the Houndour to die of starvation itself. Such thoughts made Lucky's curdle.

Lucky often had to remind himself that death was part of the natural cyle of life, but he also didn't have to like it. Occasionally, he would even turn down a parcel of meat if he thought that the creature had suffered. Especially given the timing of his father's death, he was extremely sensitive to the topic. At the age of 7, he could remember everything quite vividly, unlike his youngest brother, Jonathon, who couldn't even remember what their father looked like; as much a blessing as a curse in Lucky's opinion. Had he watched the light fade from his father's eyes, how would he then see? Had he embraced the cold, lifeless body that had once been so warm and lively, how would he then feel? Had he been the last to hear his father's coarse voice speak as they so weakly whispered into his ears, how would he then hear? Not until he had turned 16 had Lucky been able to suppress the images, the feelings, the whispers deep within himself. Only then was he finally able to enjoy the soft kiss of the sun on his face once again. And only on his worst nights would thoughts of his father resurface. These nights he cried himself to sleep.

Lucius Lancaster III, firstborne son and fondly nicknamed Lucky in reference to the term "The third time's the charm." Early in his life (when he was only 7 in fact) he lost his father due to an illness brought to him by one harsh winter. Their family as a whole became depressed for many years in response to his untimely demise--the air itself seemed thick and heavy. But time heals all wounds, and the family gradually recovered as it dragged on. None had been affected like Lucky had though, who had held his father at the time of his demise and heard his last words before all life drained from his body. "Follow your dreams." his father had silently croaked in his ear. Such few words never meant so much.

Oftentimes Lucius Jr. would berate Lucky for his incessant talk about travelling so when he heard his father tell him this, he was taken off-guard. His father's words made it even more difficult for him to accept the loss. Even still, with the encouragement of his father now backing him, the fire in his heart burned brighter than ever. So much was the case that he had to repress his ambition, locking it away so that he could properly deal with his father's untimely death. Noticing how greatly Lucius Jr.'s death affected the 7-year-old coupled with his lucid dreams of adventure, Grandma Etna fished out her long-deceased husband's old bandana, which bore the stitching of a sprinting Arcanine on the face of it. Though he asked profusely, she refused to explain to him the significance of the cloth.

Several years dragged on bringing nothing of notable importance. Every day, the children (Marina included) would silently drudged through their chores: tilling the soil, planting seeds, fertilizing them, plowing the fields, cleaning their crude tools, harvesting crops, rotating crops and protecting the them from wild pokemon. Most pokemon they could simply shoo away using a large walking stick, but others weren't so compliant. Those that resisted had to be left alone as the family had no way of fighting them off, or even to protect themselves should need arise. This being the case, the Lancasters typically did not eat much meat. They had no weapons to hunt and none were skilled the in the art. Lucky was the only one who had anything that could even be considered a weapon: a small hunting knife that used to belong to his father. Instead, they relied heavily on hard work, small portions and a lot of luck to survive year to year.

Over these years Lucky's fiery ambition began to slowly resurface, first taking form as the enjoyment of simply watching pokemon. Slightly jealous of their freedom as they were able to go wherever they pleased, he admired them from afar. At first it was only a casual pastime. Besides, he had plenty of chores that kept him more than occupied. But when his grandma passed down yet another item of his grandfather's, a rusty monocular, it became more than just a part-time hobby. He became an avid pokemon watcher, taking every opportunity to observe the local pokemon. Of course, curiosity burned once more inside of him, wanting to know where his grandfather could have gotten such a tool being a farmer, but his questions were once again brushed aside.

Traveler's and pokemon alike would occasionally stay in their home, often injured or sick. Pokemon were generally left alone except to treat their injuries. Of course, with Lucky's interest and curiosity, he tried to get a lot closer than the rest of his family. On the other hand, traveler's were pestered for news and their stories. Unlike the others (who were still genuinely interested in their stories), Lucky took it to a whole new level. He clung to every word they had to say, asking questions to extract every single minute detail before the story had finished. Every time was not enough time for Lucky. The strangers would eventually get well again and leave too soon while he was left replaying the stories in his head.
